A group of 12 participants of the UNIMAS International Summer Programme 2017 visited ISITI as part of their programme. The participants were introduced to the various research initiatives spearheaded by ISITI and were also given a detailed explanation on the impacts that the research conducted by the institute had on the communities involved. The participants were also asked to provide their own insight on the issues of sustainability of developmental projects for rural communities as well as to share their experiences and thoughts on any research projects that they had either participated in or were keen to pursue in the future.

ISITI participated in the flag-off of the UNIMAS-PALAPES team to Long Lamai as not only was this the first time that PALAPES was involved in an ISITI-related activity, but also this was a unique collaboration between UNIMAS and PALAPES in conducting a community project. The UNIMAS-PALAPES team sent construction material and completed the construction of the NBOS project via the UCTC, MoHE to improve the water supply and sanitation system for the Penan community in Long Lamai. The project components consisted of a rainwater harvesting system, biochar reactor and dry composting toilet in effort to enable the sustainable development of Long Lamai in the long term.

ISITI-UNIMAS Engage initiated a sustainable development model in Long Lamai from 11 to 13 October 2017 under a NBOS project funded by University Community Transformation Centre, “Program Penambahbaikan Bekalan Air dan Sistem Sanitasi untuk Masyarakat Penan di Long Lamai”, with the assistance by the PALAPES UNIMAS team of 40 personnel headed by Major Razali Abdul Manan. This project, spearheaded by Ir Dr Leonard Lim Lik Pueh and Dr John Phoa Chui Leong, is about the development of an integrated system consisting rainwater harvesting system, dry composting toilet and biochar reactor to enable the sustainable water resource and waste management by the Penan community in Long Lamai. The material used in this project was considered based on the material available in the vicinity of the village, where possible.

The water resource management encompasses the use of rainwater harvesting system, designed by Dr Charles Bong Hin Joo, to increase the volume of water collected in the water tank, especially during the wet season, as well as intervention on the management of water supply for their daily use. 10 September 2017 – Majlis Aluan Pelajar Baharu Program Siswazah Semester 1 Sesi 2017/2018 telah diadakan di Pusat Islam Tun Ahmad Salahuddin UNIMAS. Program ini telah dihadiri oleh lebih kurang 200 orang pelajar baharu.

Seramai 193 orang pelajar tempatan dan 7 orang pelajar antarabangsa telah mendaftar bagi pengambilan kali ini yang terdiri dari negara Bangladesh, Iran, Nigeria dan United Kingdom. Jumlah ini dijangka akan meningkat apabila selesai tempoh pendaftaran pada 23 September 2017.

Majlis Aluan ini telah dirasmikan oleh Prof Dr Fasihuddin bin Badruddin Ahmad Dekan Pusat Pengajian Siswazah yang seterusnya membentangkan taklimat berkenaan Peraturan Akademik bagi pelajar siswazah. Beberapa penceramah jemputan dari Unit Undang-Undang, Pusat Pembangunan dan Khidmat Teknologi Maklumat dan Bahagian Keselamatan UNIMAS juga turut menyampaikan ceramah dan maklumat penting kepada pelajar baharu sebagai panduan mereka semasa mengikuti pengajian di UNIMAS.

Kebanyakan pelajar yang ditemui merasa amat berbangga dan berterima kasih kerana dipilih sebagai pelajar UNIMAS. Mereka bertekad untuk melengkapkan pengajian dalam tempoh yang ditetapkan oleh universiti.

Program yang telah diadakan pada jam 9.00 pagi sehingga jam 12.00 tengahari diharap telah dapat meningkatkan kefahaman di kalangan pelajar mengenai peraturan akademik dan peraturan semasa di Kampus UNIMAS.

Pameran SQUAD25 “Underwater Photography Exhibition” ini merupakan anjuran pelajar Tahun 3 Program Seni Halus (Pengkhusuan Fotografi) bersempena kursus GKF2074 Fotografi Dalam Air, dan disertai oleh seramai 25 orang. Istilah “ SQUAD25” merupakan inspirasi dari formasi membuat satu pasukan semasa melakukan selaman, bermula daripada proses latihan sehingga kepada pelaksanaan tugasan dan "SQUAD25" diambil semperna ulang tahun UNIMAS yang ke 25 . Oleh itu, diharapkan agar pameran ini dapat memberikan satu pendedahan dalam menganjurkan program dan juga diharapkan agar ia berjalan dengan jayanya di samping memberi pengetahuan kepada pelajar dalam menganjurkan pameran dan penilaian.

Diharap juga pameran ini akan menjadi pemangkin dalam meningkatkan rekreasi selaman di Malaysia disamping menimba ilmu, melihat, merakam dan memelihara khazanah laut Negara. Hasil lawatan pelajar daripada pameran ini juga dapat memberi peluang kepada mereka untuk memahirkan diri dalam memantapkan kepakaran fotografi agar pelajar lebih yakin akan bidang yang diceburi. Pengalaman yang berguna ini akan meningkatkan daya saing apabila menceburi bidang kerjaya kelak.

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 29 April 2019 – Sebagai usaha menyemarakkan program membaca, Pusat Khidmat Maklumat Akademik telah mengambil inisiatif menganjurkan Program Cinta Ilmu selama dua hari bermula 29 April lepas sebagai menyokong Read@UNIMAS dan menarik minat membaca dan memupuk kecintaan kepada ilmu dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS.

Objektif program adalah untuk menyemarakkan semangat membaca dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS,memupuk kecintaan kepada ilmu pengetahuan, menggalakkan kempen menderma buku dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS serta meningkatkan kesedaran budaya membaca di kalangan masyarakat.

Antara aktiviti diadakan seperti gimik perasmian, Jom Baca 10 minit, Read Out Loud  yang dilakukan oleh tiga orang pelajar dari sekolah SK St. Martin, SK Empila dan SK Dato Mohd Musa Samarahan, persembahan nyanyian oleh Adik Sofia Arissa, Read and Write with Emerald, pameran dan jualan buku dan cenderahati, jualan makanan dan minuman (food truck)Yakub

Istimewanya Program Cinta Ilmu kali ini turut dihadiri oleh  Miss Planet International 2019, Cik Viviana Lin Watson,19, yang telah mewakili Malaysia ke peringkat antarabangsa untuk Miss Planet International pada 1 Mac 2019 di Cambodia dan telah merangkul anugerah 2nd runner up Miss Planet International 2019 bersandarkan minat membaca yang mendalam dan mempunyai pengetahuan am yang luas.

Kota Samarahan,  30 August 2018: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Estream Software Sdn. Bhd, Malaysia with the aim of establishing a basis upon which UNIMAS and Estream may explore areas for cooperation and collaboration such as research, staff engagement, industrial study visits and student industrial placement.

This event was officiated by Ybhg Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi as Vice-Chancellor, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Mr Desmond Law Hoe Yan, Managing Director of Estream Software Sdn. Bhd, Malaysia.

This event was witnessed by Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Associate Professor Michael Tinggi and Ms Ong Bee Wei, the Education Advisor of Estream Software Sdn. Bhd., as well as Unimas staff and other invited guests.
