    Pada 17 April 2018, Dekan Fakulti Bahasa dan Komunikasi Profesor Dr. Ambigapathy Pandian dan Profesor Madya Dr. Norazuna Norahim telah dijemput untuk menyampaikan Kuliah Umum kepada warga Sekolah Tinggi Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Persada Khatulistiwa Sintang, Indonesia. Perkongsian ini bersempena dengan Program Kunjungan Hormat ke sekolah tersebut. Turut serta program ini adalah Timbalan Dekan Prasiswazah Fakulti Bahasa dan Komunikasi, En Dilah Tuah dan Dr Remmy Gedat.

    The Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI) recently shared the experiences and know-hows of through the usage of the digital economy with the community members at Krokong, Bau. The workshops conducted with the community are part of the UNIMAS Bungo Expedition, which aims at exploring and documenting the biodiversity of Bungo Range, assessing the demographic structures and development patterns for communities living within the Bungo Range, as well as to evaluate the potentials of using natural resources for the social development of communities as a whole. In line with the objectives of the expedition, one of the workshops organised by ISITI was the Business Promotion using ICT. This workshop was held in collaboration with the Pusat Internet 1 Malaysia Krokong. The focus of the workshop was to assist emerging entrepreneurs within the community to familiarize themselves with developing websites to promote their businesses. Apart from that, the participants were also given tips on product photography using basic tools and materials that were easily accessible to them.     ISITI-UNIMAS Engage initiated a sustainable development model in Long Lamai from 11 to 13 October 2017 under a NBOS project funded by University Community Transformation Centre, “Program Penambahbaikan Bekalan Air dan Sistem Sanitasi untuk Masyarakat Penan di Long Lamai”, with the assistance by the PALAPES UNIMAS team of 40 personnel headed by Major Razali Abdul Manan. This project, spearheaded by Ir Dr Leonard Lim Lik Pueh and Dr John Phoa Chui Leong, is about the development of an integrated system consisting rainwater harvesting system, dry composting toilet and biochar reactor to enable the sustainable water resource and waste management by the Penan community in Long Lamai. The material used in this project was considered based on the material available in the vicinity of the village, where possible. The water resource management encompasses the use of rainwater harvesting system, designed by Dr Charles Bong Hin Joo, to increase the volume of water collected in the water tank, especially during the wet season, as well as intervention on the management of water supply for their daily use. This system utilizes about 60% of the total roof area to the water tank, compared to the previous 10%, corresponding to an increase of 6-fold rainwater ...

    Community engagement has always been a priority for the Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI), as it is through close interaction with the community that a mutual relationship of trust and understanding can be formed and and fostered between researchers and community. This close relationship with the community has also been the key to the success of the many community based research projects that the insitute has spearheaded throughout Malaysia over the years.   Keeping this in mind, ISITI has again initiated another UNIMAS Go- Community initiative with the community at Kampung Teluk Melano, Sematan from 11-13 August 2017. A team of twenty researchers from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) will be participating in the three-day event in conjunction with the Program Negaraku Teluk Melano. The UNIMAS team will be organising a creative educational workshop with the students of SK Teluk Melano, as well as working together with the community to clean up the beach in an effort to preserve the cleanliness and beauty of Teluk Melano. Apart from that, this programme will also introduce the local village culture to the international ISITI research fellows, staff and postgraduate students.
