    KOTA SAMARAHAN, 20 Januari 2020 : Kontinjen UNIMAS berjaya merangkul lima pingat emas, lapan perak dan tiga gangsa dalam Kejohanan Sukan Asasi Malaysia (SAM) Ke-3 sekaligus menduduki tangga ketiga secara keseluruhan yang menyaksikan Uitm selaku juara keseluruhan dan diiringi oleh UPM di tangga kedua.

    Pingat-pingat kontinjen UNIMAS berkenaan diperolehi menerusi lima dari lapan acara sukan yang dipertandingkan iaitu acara karom, e-sport, badminton futsal wanita dan bola jarring.

    Kontinjen UiTM menunjukkan kehebatan selaku juara keseluruhan dengan meraih sebanyak 22 pungutan pingat (9 emas, 5 perak, 8 gangsa) diikuti oleh UPM dengan 17 pungutan pingat (6 emas, 8 perak dan 3 gangsa).

    Kejohanan SAM Ke-3 ini telah diadakan selama empat hari bermula 17 hingga 19 Januari lepas dengan perasmian telah disempurnakan oleh Timbalan Naib Canselor (Akademik dan Antarabangsa) UNIMAS, Profesor Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit manakala penutupan dan penyampaian hadiah disempurnakan oleh Timbalan Naib Canselor (Hal Ehwal Pelajar & Alumni), Profesor Dr Kamaruddin bin Kana.

    Kejohanan SAM merupakan anjuran Majlis Dekan/Pengarah Asasi Universiti Awam yang bertujuan mencungkil bakat-bakat kesukanan pelajar-pelajar asasi yang secara umumnya bertumpukan kepada pendidikan sains dan teknologi, dengan harapan untuk menyerlahkan pelajar-pelajar asasi yang bersifat serbaboleh dan holistik.

    20 Januari 2020 menyaksikan berlangsungnya taklimat tender dan lawatan tapak projek pembinaan dan penyiapan "Hospital Pengajar UNIMAS & Pusat Kesihatan Prima."

    Taklimat tender dikendalikan oleh Tuan Norazmi Bin Hj Razli, Arkitek Penguasa Kanan, Bahagian Pengurusan Projek 5, Jabatan Kerja Raya yang merupakan Pengurus Projek Hospital Pengajar UNIMAS dan Pusat Kesihatan Prima.

    Selepas pembentangan para petendar yang telah berjaya disenarai pendek dibawa ke tapak Projek yang bertempat berhampiran dengan pintu masuk utama ke kampus barat.

    Projek ini akan dijangka siap pada 2022 untuk Pusat Kesihatan Prima dan 2024 untuk Hospital Pengajar UNIMAS.

    19 Januari 2020, Kota Samarahan : Kontinjen UNIMAS beraksi cemerlang pada Sukan Asasi Malaysia Ke-3, UNIMAS 2020 yang telah berlangsung pada 16-19 Januari 2020 bertempat di Universiti Malaysia Sarawak dengan merangkul empat (4) piala daripada lapan (8) sukan yang dipertandingkan. Pasukan UNIMAS telah menjadi johan bagi sukan badminton, E-Sports, karom dan futsal wanita. . Sebanyak 13 pasukan telah menyertai kejohanan ini iatu pasukan UNIMAS, UiTM, UMS, UnisZa, UM, UKM, UPM, UPNM, UIAM, UUM, UMT, USIM dan Kolej Matrikulasi Sarawak.

    Pusat Pengajian Pra-Universiti UNIMAS dengan kerjasama Pusat Sukan UNIMAS telah diberi mandat untuk menganjurkan kejohanan edisi ke-3 ini.  Sebanyak lapan (8) acara sukan dipertandingkan iaitu badminton, olahraga, futsal lelaki, futsal wanita, bola jaring , sepak takraw ,karom dan E-Sports. Maklumbalas  daripada pegawai dan atlet amat positif pada penganjuran kali dari segi kemudahan sukan dan penganjuran terutama bagi sukan E-sports yang menyediakan kelengkapan pertandingan yang terkini. 

    Majlis Penyampaian Hadiah dan Penutupan Rasmi kejohan telah disempurnakan oleh Prof. Dr Kamaruddin bin Kana, Timbalan Naib Canselor (Hal Ehwal Pelajar & Alumni). Pada edisi kali ini, Kontinjen UiTM telah dinobatkan sebagai Juara Keseluruhan berdasarkan pungutan pingat.     Kota Samarahan, 17 Januari 2020: Bertepatan dengan ulangtahun ke-10 Pusat Pengajian Pra-Universiti (PPPU), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) telah diberi peluang untuk mengelola kejohanan Sukan Asasi Malaysia Ke-3.

    Seramai lebih 700 atlet dari 13 buah pusat-pusat asasi dan matrikulasi institusi-institusi awam di Malaysia berkampung di UNIMAS untuk menyertai kejohanan ini yang telah dirasmikan oleh Timbalan Naib Canselor (Akademik dan Antarabangsa) UNIMAS, Profesor Dr Ahmad Hata bin Rasit yang mewakili Naib Canselor UNIMAS, Profesor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi di Stadium Badminton UNIMAS, malam tadi (16 Januari 2020).

    Selain pembacaan ikrar atlet, majlis perasmian ini juga menyaksikan penamaan semula kejohanan dari nama Inter Asasi Games ke nama baru iaitu Sukan Asasi Malaysia (SAM) dan logo kejohanan yang baru.

    Para atlet akan memulakan saingan dalam acara sukan masing-masing pada keesokan hari di beberapa tapak acara di dalam kampus terutamanya tertumpu di sekitar Kompleks Sukan UNIMAS selama tiga hari dengan penutupan akan dilangsungkan pada 19 Januari kelak..

    Kejohanan yang dianjurkan oleh Majlis Dekan/Pengarah Asasi Universiti Awam ini bertujuan mencungkil bakat-bakat kesukanan pelajar-pelajar asasi yang secara umumnya bertumpukan kepada pendidikan sains dan teknologi, dengan harapan untuk menyerlahkan pelajar-pelajar asasi yang bersifat serbaboleh dan holistik.

    KUCHING: Students of the third intake for Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) Pool of Young Designers (Poyod) were successfully registered by STIDC.

    The fresh graduates of Industrial Design from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will start their first one-year industrial training on furniture design in Kuching and Miri.

    Throughout the course, Poyod students will be trained in projects targeted at international exposures.

    This year, STIDC will participate in an international furniture exhibition in India and Dubai to promote furniture produced by the corporation based on designs created by the Poyod students.

    “We (STIDC) hope that through our participation in these exhibitions, it will be a breakthrough for Sarawak’s furniture internationally,” said STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet.

    The Poyod training programme was developed and implemented by STIDC in collaboration with Unimas and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

    “Our target is to produce a hundred furniture designers by the year 2030 to help grow the furniture industry of Sarawak and achieve the export target of RM6 billion,” he added.

    Kota Samarahan, 13 January 2020: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak was signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Phuket Rajabhat University with the aim to explore areas for cooperation and collaboration such as research, academic and staff engagement.

    The MoU was signed by Vice Chancellor UNIMAS, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi and President Phuket Rajabhat University, Assistant Professor Dr Hiran Prasarnkarn and witnessed by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Acadamic & International) UNIMAS, Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit and Chancellor Secretary Phuket Rajabhat University, Dr.Anusara Sawangchai.

    This MOU will facilitate the mutual sharing of best practices and expertise in initiatives such as staff exchange, student exchange and student mobility programs; whilst collaboration on research and development activities would be undertaken on areas of mutual interests.

    The year 2019 had been quite a journey for Unimas, which prides itself as a community driven university, with a large emphasise on community-based research and development activities.

    One of the projects is the Telecentre Programme amongst the Orang Asli (TPOA) in West Malaysia. Headed by AP Dr Poline Bala with a team of conscientious researchers from Unimas, the initiative was aimed to introduce information and communication technologies (ICTs) to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural communities, targeting mainly four different remote areas and rural communities in Pahang and Kelantan.

    The initiative was funded and supported by the Economic Planning Unit at the Prime Minister’s Department, Ministry of Regional Planning and Rural Development, and the Department of Orang Asli Development (Jakoa). The focus was to explore ways on how new technologies can be adapted to the environment to benefit the communities living in specific locations along with their particular cultural background, needs challenges.

    In terms of location, these four sites are only accessible through 3-4 hours drive in 4WD on logging tracks from the closest points of contact. However, there are times when the journey takes one or two days due to the extremely unpredictable ...

    KUCHING: In an effort to tackle plastic pollution, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has embarked towards zero usage of single-use plastics.

    Its Vice Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi revealed that the varsity aims to educate its students and staff on the importance and the negative impacts of single-use plastics.

    “ Our efforts is in line with four Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs). Hopefully, this will bring some impact to our community,” he said, adding that the people are living on a borrowed planet and are bpund to keep it clean and halthy.

    “ It starts from us, our family, office and hopefully, we can spread to the whole UNIMAS.”

    In the 2018, United Nations (UN) Environment’ Single-Use Plastics A Roadmap for Sustainability’ report, it was estimated that between one and five trillion plastic bags were consumed worldwide each year.

    The report added that five trillion plastic bags was almost equivalent to 10 million plastic bags a minute. If tied together, they would go around the world seven times every hour and cover an area twice the size of France.
