    KOTA SAMARAHAN, 18th July 2019 : Sarawak recently introduced a Digital Economy Agenda as an initiative by the demands of the fourth industrial revolution. It is estimated that the digital economy will upsurge economic growth in Sarawak, which has been relying mostly on natural resources over the past few decades. Big data analytics will become one of the critical parts of the digital economy agenda. It will help business owners to make the right economic decisions in the future based on data gathered from customers' online activities. One of the human-resource strategies to fulfil the Sarawak Digital Agenda initiative, mathematics teachers in Sarawak, play a crucial role in the agenda. Teachers who are currently teaching in urban and rural Sarawak schools are needed to align their teaching methods that will encourage mathematical cognition among students. When teachers use Big Data concepts when they teach Mathematics, students will learn about the importance of mathematical cognition.     17th July 2019 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Senari Synergy and UNIMAS which aims at resolving quality and inconsistent water supply issues arising from low water pressure, ageing piping and uneven distribution in stressed areas of the rural population was signed today and witnessed by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak. The MoU will enable both parties to explore areas involving developing and/or rejuvenating the existing water supply infrastructure in remote areas that are difficult to access. The project will entail the development of a standalone system that will help complement the existing Sarawak State Water Grid Programme. Jefri said, “Senari Synergy are extremely excited about this collaboration with UNIMAS as this will allow us to assist the State in providing not only clean treated water which is very much needed in the rural areas but more importantly ensuring cost effective and timely delivery of the project through the provision of a standalone system’.      KOTA SAMARAHAN, 17th July 2019: The graduate employability for the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, UNIMAS, is averaging at around 85%, which indicates that the graduates from the faculty is in high demand from the industry. Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), Professor Datu Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman said UNIMAS has smart collaboration with stakeholders, including industries, government agencies, communities, alumni, schools and others to ensure the quality of the curriculum is relevant with the needs of the industry by having Industry Advisory Panel to give feedback on the relevancy of the curriculum. “ Align with the Minister of Education Mandate 2019, “university for community”, UNIMAS will continue our work and initiatives to bridge the digital divide so that the communities will not be left out in the Digital Economy revolution.     Pada 22 Jun 2019 yang lalu, pasukan karom UNIMAS telah menghantar lima pasukan untuk bersaing di Pertandingan Karom Terbuka Anjuran CityOne dengan kerjasama Kelab OOHA. Dalam pertandingan yang telah dilangsungkan di tingkat bawah pusat beli-belah CityOne tersebut, seramai 28 pasukan telah mengambil bahagian.   Pasukan dari UNIMAS iaitu Pasukan HR Punch menunjukkan prestasi yang cemerlang apabila menjadi Naib Johan selepas tewas kepada Pasukan KK Ohaa Joker di perlawanan akhir. Satu lagi pasukan daripada UNIMAS iaitu Pasukan MAD Karom berkongsi tempat ketiga bersama dengan Pasukan Mangchi-Mangthi selepas tewas kepada pasukan juara iaitu KK Ohaa Joker di peringkat separuh akhir.   Pasukan HR Punch yang diwakili oleh En. Rozaini Ahmad dan En. Muhamad Hazlan B. Yusuf membawa pulang hadiah wang tunai sebanyak RM 350 berserta trofi manakala Pasukan MAD Karom yang diwakili oleh En. Abdul Rahman Bin Abdul Latiff daripada UNIMAS yang bergandingan dengan En. Dev Bin Zaini daripada Pejabat Kesihatan Kota Samarahan membawa pulang hadiah wang tunai sebanyak RM 200 dan trofi selaku pemenang tempat ketiga.   Tahniah dan syabas diucapkan kepada semua pasukan daripada UNIMAS yang telah bertanding di kejohanan tersebut. Semoga terus berjaya dan mendapat keputusan yang memberansangkan di kejohanan atau pertandingan yang akan datang.

In most universities, postgraduate students are required to publish research papers and co-authored by their supervisor(s). Determining authorship credit can be difficult and it can complicate the supervisor-student relationship. Therefore, this issue deserves further exploration and students indeed should not be forced to co-author their papers with their supervisors.   All requirements pertaining to the research will be clearly explained and made explicit including the authorship of publications during the initial stage of graduate study supervision between the supervisor and student. In addition, the roles of a supervisor(s) must be clarified in the Graduate Study Regulations.   To foster a trusting learning environment, it is the responsibility of the supervisor to involve the students in the academic integrity exercise. The supervisor should inculcate the students with the culture of academic honesty since the value is paramount to student success and credibility as postgraduate student.     Baru baru ini UNIMAS telah dipilih sebagai tuan rumah penganjuran Majlis Anugerah MAPIM-KPM 2018. Majlis ini telah diadakan dengan jayanya di Hotel Marriot, Putrajaya pada 27 Jun 2019 yang lepas. Selaku tuan rumah, UNIMAS telah menampilkan tema budaya negeri Sarawak . Majlis Anugerah MAPIM-KPM ini diadakan setiap tahun dengan tujuan memberi pengiktirafan kepada para karyawan dan penerbit di Malaysia. Majlis ini merupakan majlis anugerah berprestij tertinggi peringkat kebangsaan bagi mengiktiraf hasil karya ilmiah, penulis, editor dan pereka dalam kalangan ahli MAPIM. Tahun ini adalah penganjuran yang ke 12 dan mengiktiraf hasil karya terbitan 2018. Selain itu Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM) adalah sebuah badan yang bergiat aktif dalam pembangunan bidang penerbitan ilmiah dan saintifik. Ahlinya terdiri daripada semua penerbit Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam (IPTA), pusat penyelidikan di Malaysia dan Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP). Sebanyak enam kategori telah dipertandingkan iaitu : (1) Buku Ilmiah Terbaik, (2) Buku Ilmiah Umum Terbaik, (3) Karya Suntingan Terbaik, (4) Editor Naskhah Terbaik, (5) Makalah Jurnal Terbaik dan (6) Reka Bentuk Buku Terbaik.     Selasa 2 Julai 2019: Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (Bank Islam) hari ini menyerahkan bantuan zakat asnaf berjumlah lebih RM30,000.00 kepada UNIMAS sempena Rumah Terbuka Bank Islam.   Cek zakat berkenaan telah diserahkan kepada YBhg Prof Dr Ahmad Hatta, Timbalan Naib Canselor ( Akademik dan Antarabangsa) yang menerima sumbangan tersebut bagi pihak  UNIMAS untuk diagih-agihkan kepada pelajar-pelajar dari golongan asnaf yang memerlukan.   Sebagai sebuah organisasi yang bertanggungjawab dalam menunaikan satu daripada rukun Islam yang kelima, iaitu membayar zakat perniagaan, Bank Islam setiap tahun akan menunaikan tanggungjawab tersebut kepada sebahagian daripada Institut Pendidikan Tinggi Awam (IPTA). Dengan cara ini, Bank Islam berharap akan dapat meringankan beban yang ditanggung oleh pelajar-pelajar asnaf.       KOTA SAMARAHAN, 3rd July 2019: University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)  today launched the ideal campus initiative. It is part of a long term effort to promote an innovation culture. The launching ceremony was made by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Bin Matjeraie, Director, UNIMAS Board of Directors. Also present was Professor Datuk Dr. Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi, the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS, YBhg Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Deputy Vice Chancellor UNIMAS (Research & Innovation) and Yg Berusaha Encik Tan Eng Hoo, Vice President, MyTRIZ Innovation Association. Today's launch will be the first step towards the realisation of a campus environment that is self-driven, self-sustainable, organically grown, balanced and integrated as a fully dynamic system. This pioneering effort will start off with the introduction of Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) trainings to both its staff and students.     KOTA SAMARAHAN, 2 Julai 2019: Majlis Ngabang Raya UNIMAS 2019 yang bertemakan ‘Rindoknya berambeh di taman’ telah disempurnakan oleh Tuan Yang Terutama Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak merangkap Canselor UNIMAS, Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud dan Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Raghad Kurdi Taib bertempat di DeTAR PUTRA UNIMAS, pagi tadi.     KOTA SAMARAHAN, 2 Julai 2019 : Program Read@UNIMAS telah berjaya disempurnakan pelancarannya oleh Pengerusi Lembaga Pengarah UNIMAS, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie pada pagi tadi bertempat di DETAR Putra, UNIMAS. Program Read@UNIMAS Peringkat Universiti Malaysia Sarawak dengan slogan “Enhance Your Knowledge” merupakan satu program yang melibatkan seluruh warga UNIMAS dan juga masyarakat setempat terutamanya sekolah rendah dan menengah serta pelajar pendidikan khas. Naib Canselor, Profesor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi dalam ucapannya berharap agar program-Read@UNIMAS dilaksana dan ditingkatkan bukan sahaja di PKMA tetapi juga oleh semua pusat tanggung jawab bagi membentuk budaya ilmu dalam masyarakat di Universiti ini.
