Ketua Menteri Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg bagaimanapun berkata, risiko yang diambil hendaklah yang sudah diperhitungkan dan tidak bermakna ia bersifat sembarangan. Tegasnya jika Sarawak terus ‘bermain secara selamat’, ia akan ketinggalan dalam dunia digital yang berubah dengan pantas. “Apabila kita mendapat penemuan baharu, risiko sentiasa ada, tetapi inilah cara untuk kita mengikuti perkembangan teknologi terkini,” katanya. Beliau berkata demikian ketika berucap pada Majlis Perasmian Persidangan Kejuruteraan STEM Antarabangsa Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Ke-11 di sebuah hotel di sini semalam. Sebagai contoh katanya, pengumuman beliau mengenai penggunaan bas yang menggunakan gas hidrogen dijangka mula beroperasi Mac tahun depan sebagai projek perintis Kerajaan Sarawak, sudah tentu mempunyai risiko. Oleh sebab itu katanya, penyelidikan dan pembangunan mesti dilakukan untuk memastikan projek perintis berkenaan berjaya.       Kota Samarahan, 7th September 2018: Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak visited the UNIMAS Water Desalination Laboratory, situated within the university’s main campus at Kota Samarahan. Also present during the visit are Yang Berbahagia Prof. Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS; Yang Berbahagia Prof. Dr. Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation, and Yang Berbahagia Prof. Dr. Lo May Chuin, Director of Research and Innovation Management Centre. The Water Desalination Laboratory is led by Prof. Dr. M. Shahidul Islam as the Principal Researcher of UNIMAS Water Desalination projects. Prof. Dr. M. Shahidul Islam is an academic staff with the Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS and has been active in the field of water desalination since 1995. He has been working with various national and international industries, among others and the most recent ones are Sarawak Hydro Power Plant (2015-2018) and Niagra Dying process for freshwater production by separating dissolved salts.       Kota Samarahan, 5th September 2018: The Faculty of Language and Communication (FLC), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Thaksin University, Thailand in a simple signing ceremony at Rumah Universiti, today. The MoU document was signed by UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Kadim Suaidi and Thaksin University’s Vice President for Research, Academic Services, and International Affairs, Dr. U-Krishdh Musicpunth. In his welcoming speech, Kadim said academic and research collaboration between the two universities will help to elevate the level of expertise among researchers and academicians. He added that the MOU will also benefit the students as it will give them the opportunity to enrich their knowledge and experience by participating in future programs organized by both parties. “Academic institutions are not spared from the stiff competition especially when university ranking is concerned.     Kota Samarahan,  30 August 2018: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Estream Software Sdn. Bhd, Malaysia with the aim of establishing a basis upon which UNIMAS and Estream may explore areas for cooperation and collaboration such as research, staff engagement, industrial study visits and student industrial placement. This event was officiated by Ybhg Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi as Vice-Chancellor, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Mr Desmond Law Hoe Yan, Managing Director of Estream Software Sdn. Bhd, Malaysia. This event was witnessed by Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Associate Professor Michael Tinggi and Ms Ong Bee Wei, the Education Advisor of Estream Software Sdn. Bhd., as well as Unimas staff and other invited guests. The Memorandum of Understanding is in line with UNIMAS's vision of being an exemplary university through the pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and scholarship.
