    Program UNIMAS Global Staff Outreach (UGSO) adalah satu program latihan jangka pendek yang diwujudkan khas untuk staf bukan akademik di Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Program ini adalah terbuka kepada semua golongan Pengurusan dan Profesional serta Pelaksana.

    Penglibatan staf CAIS dalam UGSO kali ini sangat membanggakan. Seramai empat (4) orang staf CAIS yang telah terpilih daripada 6 orang ahli kumpulan akan menyertai Program UNIMAS Global Staff Outreach (UGSO) ke Vitoria dan  Madrid, Sepanyol 19-28 November 2018. Mereka terdiri daripada Puan Norazlina Abdul Rahman & Puan Hejilda Hendrick (Penolong Pengarah Kanan), Cik Noorazerin Alladen (Penolong Pegawai Sistem Maklumat) dan Encik Frederick Jamali (Pembantu Pustakawan Kanan). 

    Objektif Program

    1. Memantapkan penggunaan sistem KOHA terutamanya di kalangan staf
    2. Mengembangkan integrasi sistem KOHA dan sistem-sistem lain di UNIMAS atau yang berkaitan
    3. Melihat kepada penggunaan sistem terbuka CORAL dan VUFIND dan kaedah implementasi di perpustakaan
    4. Bergerak ke arah pengkomersilan perkhidmatan berkaitan sistem perpustakaan bersepadu
    5. Mencari peluang untuk menjalankan kolaborasi di peringkat antarabangsa

    Sepanyol, Eropah menjadi pilihan adalah kerana hampir kesemua universiti awam di negara ini telah berjaya menggunapakai ketiga-tiga sistem sumber terbuka yang menjadi fokus utama kumpulan iaitu KOHA, CORAL dan VUFIND.

    The eBorneo Knowledge Fair (eBKF) is a biennial event held in the central highlands of northern Sarawak, one of the East Malaysian states on the island of Borneo. It showcases the achievements of the multi-award-winning eBario project that introduced telephones, computers, the internet and Malaysia’s first community radio station into this remote and isolated region. It brings together researchers, officials, practitioners with the residents and provides an immersive experience in the realities of live for isolated indigenous communities.

    The eBKF unconference is organized, structured and led by the people attending it. Instead of passive listening, all attendees and organizers are encouraged to become participants, with discussion leaders providing moderation and structure for attendees. Together, participants identify the challenges faced by isolated rural communities and the opportunities for sustainable development that might be available for the application of Information and Communication technologies (ICTs).

    The indigenous populations of Borneo share common lifestyles and cultures, yet they are separated from their brethren by international borders that create artificial barriers to interactions between them.     Dr. Nazeri Abdul Rahman, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni, Faculty of Engineering was invited by Yayasan Salam Malaysia (Sarawak) to participate in Guruku Sekolahku Programme at SK Pugu, Lundu, Sarawak, on 9th November 2018. This post UPSR education programme was conducted to motivate the students to pursue their dream through education excellent. During the programme, Dr Nazeri talked on good study skills as well as introducing the students of university student’s life at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. Also facilitating the talk were Mr. Calvin anak Jose Jol and Mr Nadi Zulfika bin Suhaili. Both are 3rd year students from Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability Department, Faculty of Engineering.

    Faculty Engineering Association of Chemical Engineering Students (FACES) 2018/2019 had organized a ‘Randau Ruai’ or open discussion at Rumah Jiram, Segubang, Batu Kawa, Kuching on 10 November 2018. The purpose of the visit to the longhouse was to discuss with the leader of the longhouse, Tuai Rumah Jiram anak Manjan, regarding the volunteering program that will be organized by FACES in collaboration with Social Entrepreneurship Society of Engineering Student (SEnSES) in December 2018. The volunteering program aims to engage the engineering students with the Iban community in a longhouse. The visit was headed by Dr. Nazeri Abdul Rahman, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Alumni and accompanied by The Venerable Revd. Jose Jol Endru, Archdeacon of Lower Southern Sarawak. During the discussion, it was agreed that UNIMAS students to conduct awareness activities on the important of educations as well as a gotong royong with Rh Jiram community.
