25 April 2018: Heavy rain and the late night did not dampen the spirits of the students occupying Kolej Bunga Raya, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to learn life-saving skills. The team from the PAD committee and the Clinical Simulation Centre were invited by the management and student body of Kolej Bunga Raya to train the residents of the hotel in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) use. The evening session was divided into a lecture session and a hand-on practical session. All participants had the opportunity to try their hands at performing CPR and using the AED.
Since UNIMAS introduced the PAD programme and equipped the campus with 25 AED units placed in strategic public locations, there has been an increased awareness and interest regarding the device amongst both students and staff members. The PAD committee of UNIMAS will be rolling out a series of awareness campaigns and training sessions concerning CPR and AED use throughout the year.
