The first colloquium was hosted by Curtin University Sarawak on the 23rd of April 2014, in Miri. It was the first joint activity between Curtin University Sarawak and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions, in December 2013. On 14th April 2015, the 2nd joint colloquium was hosted by UNIMAS in Kuching, Sarawak. It has now become an annual event between the institutions. The aims of the colloquium are to provide an avenue for the higher degree by research (HDR) students to present their research work, improve their presentation skills, facilitate cross-fertilization of research ideas, and provide an avenue for networking as well as fostering friendship and collaboration. This year, Curtin University Sarawak is honored to widen participation by inviting more institutions in the North Borneo region. Confirmed participating universities are Curtin Sarawak University and UNIMAS. The North Borneo Research Colloquium 2016, which is an expanded form of the previous events, is focused on the theme “Research Advancements towards a Brighter Tomorrow”. The primary aim is to engender a corporate research culture and promote camaraderie among the HDR students.
