25^th July 2015, Saturday - The Insti­tute of Social Infor­mat­ics and Tech­no­log­i­cal Inno­va­tions (ISITI) and the Pusat Inter­net 1Malaysia (PI1M) Skio together with Per­sat­uan Asal Serembu Bau (P.A.S.B), Bidayuh Grad­u­ate Asso­ci­a­tion (B.G.A) recently organ­ised the ‘Pro­gram Pen­gi­rap’ for the Form 5 stu­dents belong­ing to the local com­mu­nity in Bau. A total of 80 stu­dents and facil­i­ta­tors attended the one- day work­shop, which was offi­ci­ated by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Peter Nyomek Nyeap, hosted at the Fac­ulty of Com­puter Sci­ence and Infor­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy, UNIMAS.

One of the main aims of this event was to offer the stu­dents the oppor­tu­nity to dis­cuss and under­stand the career path­ways that lie ahead after com­plet­ing their SPM exam­i­na­tions. Apart from that, the work­shop was organ­ised as a plat­form for the younger gen­er­a­tion of the Bidayuh com­mu­nity to voice their thoughts and opin­ions towards the chal­lenges faced by them when decid­ing on their career options.

PI1M Skio, which is one of the six PI1M sites man­aged by ISITI, also organ­ised this event with the hopes of fur­ther expos­ing the younger gen­er­a­tion to the var­i­ous uses of the inter­net when revis­ing for their SPM exam­i­na­tions. Some of the point­ers shared with the stu­dents included the usage of online tuto­ri­als as well as infor­ma­tion search­ing tips that they could make use of dur­ing their study. The stu­dents were also informed of the dif­fer­ent ser­vices offered at the PI1M and were urged to make full use of the facil­i­ties pro­vided for them at the PI1M in order to assist with achiev­ing aca­d­e­mic success.

This work­shop is one of many efforts put forth by the respec­tive PI1Ms in order to engage with the local com­mu­nity and to high­light the var­i­ous ser­vices and facil­i­ties avail­able at the PI1M for the community.
