25th July 2015, Saturday - The Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI) and the Pusat Internet 1Malaysia (PI1M) Skio together with Persatuan Asal Serembu Bau (P.A.S.B), Bidayuh Graduate Association (B.G.A) recently organised the ‘Program Pengirap’ for the Form 5 students belonging to the local community in Bau. A total of 80 students and facilitators attended the one- day workshop, which was officiated by Y. Bhg. Dato’ Peter Nyomek Nyeap, hosted at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, UNIMAS.
One of the main aims of this event was to offer the students the opportunity to discuss and understand the career pathways that lie ahead after completing their SPM examinations. Apart from that, the workshop was organised as a platform for the younger generation of the Bidayuh community to voice their thoughts and opinions towards the challenges faced by them when deciding on their career options.
PI1M Skio, which is one of the six PI1M sites managed by ISITI, also organised this event with the hopes of further exposing the younger generation to the various uses of the internet when revising for their SPM examinations. Some of the pointers shared with the students included the usage of online tutorials as well as information searching tips that they could make use of during their study. The students were also informed of the different services offered at the PI1M and were urged to make full use of the facilities provided for them at the PI1M in order to assist with achieving academic success.
This workshop is one of many efforts put forth by the respective PI1Ms in order to engage with the local community and to highlight the various services and facilities available at the PI1M for the community.
