KOTA SAMARAHAN, 2 March 2016 : The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) UNIMAS hosted the Inaugural Lecture by Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit today at Dewan Syarahan, Pusat Islam Abang Salahuddin (PITAS), UNIMAS. 

Professor Dr Ahmad Hata, Professor of Orthopaedic at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) is also a renowned expertise in in his field and recognised both locally and internationally.

For his Inaugural lecture titled ‘Congenital limb deformity: replace, repair or remove’,  the lecture overview about orthopaedics problem as well as limb reconstructive surgery especially paediatrics orthopaedics. 

According to Ahmad Hata, congenital limb deformity occurs in approximately six per 10,000 live birth, with prominently affected the upper limb compare to lower limb. 

These defects are often with other birth defects involving the craniofacial, cardiac and genitourinary systems. 

“It is due to multiple causes range from infectious, chemical, genetic, environmental or combination of them,”he said.

Professor Dr Ahmad Hata said it is also classified by one or combination of following mechanism, arrest of developmental, failure of differentiation, duplication, overgrowth or other.

Professor Dr Ahmad Hata add the deformity is easily recognized and may need additional investigation such as radiography, ultrasound or genetic analysis.

According to him, the treatment can be offer depend on the severity of the deformity and it is can be treated by replacing with artificial limb, surgical amputation, reconstruction on the limbs or combination of these.
