    MOOCS-in-Bario.jpg

The Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI) recently organised a visit to Bario as part of a project which concentrates on the capacity building of rural communities in Sarawak, with a focus on single mothers. This project, which is in collaboration with Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, saw a team of researchers discussing the potentials of using MOOCs with the Single Mothers Association in Bario.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is an efficient platform to provide marginalized groups with access to relevant learning resources and has been recognised as one of the more empowering solutions towards answering regional educational problems in underserved locations.

The team, led by Professor Dr Narayanan Kulathuramaiyer (ISITI) and Professor Carlos Delgado (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), had close discussions with the group of single mothers in Bario, allowing both the researchers and the community members to gain more insight on areas which would be further developed into MOOCs for the community in Bario.
