    Kota Samarahan, 4th October 2018; In conjunction with World Animal Day celebrated worldwide on October 4th every year, the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation (IBEC) University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is organizing the first ever Institute Open Day started today until tomorrow. The open day is held as part of UNIMAS year of research enculturation. The goals are to impart conservation message to public, offer skills to students, promote biodiversity as a science for conservation, research and ecotourism in Sarawak home to countless endemic species of plants and animals.

    The launching was officiated by Deputy of Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim on behalf of UNIMAS Vice Chancellor. It was witnessed by IBEC Director Professor Dr Gabriel Tonga Noweg, the Deans and Directors of UNIMAS, staff and students. Additionally, about 200 school students including teachers, Non-Governmental organization and other institutions also joined the launching ceremony this morning.

    This two days event included wildlife talks, workshops, games with prizes, exhibitions of research products, sale of merchandise and lots more.

    KOTA SAMARAHAN, 29 April 2019 – Sebagai usaha menyemarakkan program membaca, Pusat Khidmat Maklumat Akademik telah mengambil inisiatif menganjurkan Program Cinta Ilmu selama dua hari bermula 29 April lepas sebagai menyokong Read@UNIMAS dan menarik minat membaca dan memupuk kecintaan kepada ilmu dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS.

    Objektif program adalah untuk menyemarakkan semangat membaca dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS,memupuk kecintaan kepada ilmu pengetahuan, menggalakkan kempen menderma buku dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS serta meningkatkan kesedaran budaya membaca di kalangan masyarakat.

    Antara aktiviti diadakan seperti gimik perasmian, Jom Baca 10 minit, Read Out Loud  yang dilakukan oleh tiga orang pelajar dari sekolah SK St. Martin, SK Empila dan SK Dato Mohd Musa Samarahan, persembahan nyanyian oleh Adik Sofia Arissa, Read and Write with Emerald, pameran dan jualan buku dan cenderahati, jualan makanan dan minuman (food truck)Yakub

    Istimewanya Program Cinta Ilmu kali ini turut dihadiri oleh  Miss Planet International 2019, Cik Viviana Lin Watson,19, yang telah mewakili Malaysia ke peringkat antarabangsa untuk Miss Planet International pada 1 Mac 2019 di Cambodia dan telah merangkul anugerah 2nd runner up Miss Planet International 2019 bersandarkan minat membaca yang mendalam dan mempunyai pengetahuan am yang luas.

    Kota Samarahan, 4 October 2018: Recently, YBhg Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS was awarded the MyRIS Outstanding Leadership Award by Malaysian Research and Innovation Society (MyRIS) in recognition of his outstanding contribution in promoting innovation of young scientists through the International Science, Technology and Engineering Expo (i-STEEx).

    i-STEEx has hosted more than 500 students and young researchers via approximately 150 projects since its debut in 2016.

    The award was presented by YBhg Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin, President of MyRIS during UNIMAS-STEM EnCon 2018 Dinner at Grand Margherita Hotel on 12 September 2018. Meanwhile, UNIMAS -STEM EnCon 2018 has presented more than 80 technical papers which bring together research topics concerning the latest technologies.

    KOTA SAMARAHAN, 4 October 2018: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was the champion in the Finale Grand Challenge Hackathon competition which was held yesterday at the Connexion@Nexus Bangsar in conjunction with Next Big Tech Asia Conference from 1st to 3rd October 2018. Team Native 404 from UNIMAS was the champion  after defeating other seven teams in the finale. All the finalist comprising eight teams (top 2 team from each competition leg in Johor, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Penang) were selected to be in the final and they had to pitch and do a demo of their invention to a panel of judges. What makes the competition more challenging is that the competition is not only limited to students, but also open to startups, working adults, professionals, SMEs, solution providers, PhD or Master’s candidates. Thus the quality of the end product and the level of competition is very high. The Native 404 team UNIMAS comprising Teshinia Phang, Vera Ruth Rewcastle, Bryan Devin Lee, Ian Mcleod Simasur and Bat Sabawi who are UNIMAS students from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT).
