    KOTA SAMARAHAN: Institutions of higher learning are advised to introduce new disciplines in line with the government’s emphasis on the  digital economy.

    Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the government on its part had allocated RM100 million per year to Yayasan Sarawak, to provide loans and scholarships to students studying cyber security and molecular engineering.

    He told a press conference yesterday that such disciplines were not available before, but were introduced due to the changing times.

    “Higher learning institutions need to introduce new courses in line with our (government) effort to move towards the digital economy where we will also be preparing for the Industrial Revolution 4.0…and the government is giving Yayasan Sarawak RM100 million every year to give loans and scholarships to prepare our human resources towards this,” he said.

    Abang Johari pointed out that he was able to increase the revenue of Yayasan Sarawak from 80 sen to RM50 per tonne in timber premium in order to build the state’s human capital.

    Earlier, he officiated at the closing of the Skilled Human Capital Development Conference (SHCDC) 2017 at the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) campus here.

    KOTA SAMARAHAN, 29 April 2019 – Sebagai usaha menyemarakkan program membaca, Pusat Khidmat Maklumat Akademik telah mengambil inisiatif menganjurkan Program Cinta Ilmu selama dua hari bermula 29 April lepas sebagai menyokong Read@UNIMAS dan menarik minat membaca dan memupuk kecintaan kepada ilmu dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS.

    Objektif program adalah untuk menyemarakkan semangat membaca dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS,memupuk kecintaan kepada ilmu pengetahuan, menggalakkan kempen menderma buku dalam kalangan warga UNIMAS serta meningkatkan kesedaran budaya membaca di kalangan masyarakat.

    Antara aktiviti diadakan seperti gimik perasmian, Jom Baca 10 minit, Read Out Loud  yang dilakukan oleh tiga orang pelajar dari sekolah SK St. Martin, SK Empila dan SK Dato Mohd Musa Samarahan, persembahan nyanyian oleh Adik Sofia Arissa, Read and Write with Emerald, pameran dan jualan buku dan cenderahati, jualan makanan dan minuman (food truck)Yakub

    Istimewanya Program Cinta Ilmu kali ini turut dihadiri oleh  Miss Planet International 2019, Cik Viviana Lin Watson,19, yang telah mewakili Malaysia ke peringkat antarabangsa untuk Miss Planet International pada 1 Mac 2019 di Cambodia dan telah merangkul anugerah 2nd runner up Miss Planet International 2019 bersandarkan minat membaca yang mendalam dan mempunyai pengetahuan am yang luas.
