    A group of 12 participants of the UNIMAS International Summer Programme 2017 visited ISITI as part of their programme. The participants were introduced to the various research initiatives spearheaded by ISITI and were also given a detailed explanation on the impacts that the research conducted by the institute had on the communities involved. The participants were also asked to provide their own insight on the issues of sustainability of developmental projects for rural communities as well as to share their experiences and thoughts on any research projects that they had either participated in or were keen to pursue in the future.

    ISITI participated in the flag-off of the UNIMAS-PALAPES team to Long Lamai as not only was this the first time that PALAPES was involved in an ISITI-related activity, but also this was a unique collaboration between UNIMAS and PALAPES in conducting a community project. The UNIMAS-PALAPES team sent construction material and completed the construction of the NBOS project via the UCTC, MoHE to improve the water supply and sanitation system for the Penan community in Long Lamai. The project components consisted of a rainwater harvesting system, biochar reactor and dry composting toilet in effort to enable the sustainable development of Long Lamai in the long term.

    ISITI recently launched the first book commemorating the ‘eBorneo Knowledge Fair’ during the opening ceremony of the UNIMAS Silver Jubilee Conference 2017. The book was officially launched by the Malaysian Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Idris bin Jusoh. The ‘eBorneo Knowledge Fair’ book captures the experiences that ISITI has had with the highland communities in Sarawak with regards to the usage of ICTs in ways that are relevant to them, the many milestones that ISITI has achieved over the years of working closely with these communities as well as the journey ahead for ISITI together with these communities.

    Satu jualan amal telah diadakan di Pavillion ,UNIMAS pada 22 November 2017 bagi melatih asas kesukarelawanan kepada pelajar tahun 1 Fakulti Kejuruteraan. Jualan amal ini dikendalikan Kumpulan 6 ‘Kelas Kemahiran Insaniah & Asas Kesukarelawanan(PPD 1041) Fakulti Kejuruteraan’ di bawah Pusat Pembangunan Pelajar (PPP). Jualan amal dilakukan adalah untuk meningkatakan kemudahan bilik tutorial Fakulti Kejuruteraan dengan membeli kipas dinding untuk setiap bilik tutorial dengan hasil jualan amal tersebut.  Ahli Jawatankuasa Program Jualan Amal yang berjumlah 40 orang yang terdiri daripada pelajar sendiri mencari inisiatif sendiri untuk mengumpul barangan terpakai seperti baju, kasut, buku-buku dan barangan elektronik untuk dijual.  Hasil hasil jualan amal pada hari tersebut adalah RM 227.00.  Jualan amal tersebut telah dipantau oleh Dr. Abdul Rahman Bin Kram, Pensyarah Kejuruteraan Elektrikal & Elektronik pada 22 November 2017, bermula dari pukul 2.00 petang hingga 4.00 petang.

    Pihak MRSM Kuching mengadakan Program Outreach di sekolah sekolah Sarawak. Program ini dijalankan untuk menggalakkan lebih ramai pelajar cemerlang dari keluarga berpendapatan rendah terutamanya di kawasan luar bandar masuk ke MRSM. Manakala, Kampung Jangkar pula terletak bersebelahan sempadan Sarawak, Malaysia dan Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia. Kebanyakn penduduk di sini bekerja sebagai petani. Perjalanan mengambil masa kira-kira dua jam dari Unimas ke Kampung Jangkar.

    Pada 24 November 2017 Program Outreach telah dijalankan di SK Kampung Jangkar, Lundu Sarawak. Pihak MRSM Kuching diwakili oleh Encik Norazizan Ahmad, Timbalan Pengetua (Hal Ehwal Ko-kurikulum) dan Encik Shahbudin bin Beddu, Kaunselor. Manakala Unimas pula diwakili oleh Tn. Haji Rasli bin Muslimen dan Pn. Ana Sakura Zainal Abidin dari Fakulti Kejuruteraan. Program ini bermula pada jam 9.00 pagi dengan sesi pengenalan ke pada MRSM Kuching, di susuli dengan sesi soal jawab. Program ini dihadiri oleh pelajar tahun enam (lepasan UPSR) seramai 12 orang dan ibu bapa pelajar. Majoriti ibu bapa adalah petani yang berpendapatan di bawah garis kemiskinan (pendapatan bawah B40). Melalui program ini ibu bapa dan pelajar diterangkan tentang kemudahan dan kelebihan belajar di MRSM. Pada masa yang sama program ini turut memberi motivasi kepada para pelajar untuk bercita-cita besar dan yakin diri. Seterusnya adalah ...
