Kuching, 7th October 2020: The Sarawak State Government is awarding sixteen Sarawak Chief Information Officers and Assistant Chief Information Officers with In-Service Training Award to pursue Master in Information Technology Management at UNIMAS, starting from October 2020.

This master programme is tailor-made for ICT policy makers to broaden the understanding of the value that e-Services could provide for different stakeholders (citizens, public entities and privately held companies, etc.). According to Associate Professor Dr Kartinah Zen, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, two joint-collaboration programmes in e-Governance and community-based field trip, with Tallinn University of Technology and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, respectively are also part of the programme, to foster a proactive ICT sector and forward-thinking government. The students will be exposed to how things are rolling in the ICT sector. Despite the pandemic situation, UNIMAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi is confident that UNIMAS is capable to provide the teaching and learning in the new norm by fully utilising one of the university strengths in digital learning and online collaboration.

Datu Dr Sabariah Putit also mentioned that the decision to award civil servants to undertake Master in Information Technology Management is part of the Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) 10-20 Transformation Program under the HR Talent Management initiatives. “The outcome of this will be a civil service manned by talented, switched-on and tech savvy workforce that are professionally trained and developed, highly competent and very dedicated. They will be the driving force of digital economy and compassionate heart to serve the rakyat and the government,’’ she said.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been exchanged between UNIMAS and Sarawak State Government today during the opening ceremony of the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak (IDECS 2020).
