Kota Samarahan, 13th November 2019: A group of 13 students from Master of Science (Human Resource Development) Cohort 29, from the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD) conducted a one day training program called “RELAkan Berbakti” in collaboration with RELA Negeri Sarawak, today.

This training project is part of the compulsory assessments under the Design of Training Program (KMS6033) course for MSc. (HRD) students. This course introduces the concept of training and development and the principles and guidelines for the design and management of effective training programs. Students also learned about the elements and stages involved in managing a training program, conduct needs analysis and target training interventions, identify suitable learning objectives and plan an evaluation approach aligned to organizational and targeted group needs and capacities, develop and sequence engaging activities that ensure achievement of the learning objectives and finally deliver the interactive training content and facilitate active training sessions under the monitoring and supervision Prof. Dr Rusli Ahmad and Mr Helmi Sumilan from the HRD Program.

RELAkan Berbakti training program aimed at encouraging the participants’ networking and communication to improve productivity in the office; supporting teamwork and trust among the group for a better understanding on one another's strengths, weaknesses and interests in order to make the team work more efficiently. Additionally, this program also aimed at enhancing the networking between UNIMAS and community/industry as well as giving the MSc. (HRD) students the opportunity to share various lessons, experiences and perspectives based on the training strategies developed to the targeted groups involving several methods such as lectures, team training, business games and role play.

A total of thirty-four (34) RELA officers from various RELA stations in Sarawak participated in this training program. Four (4) training modules were developed covering elements of communication skills, soft skills, team building and leadership skills for this training program. This first training collaboration between UNIMAS and RELA Negeri Sarawak was officiated by Deputy Dean (Research and Postgraduate) of Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, Dr Salmah Mohamad Yusoff while RELA Negeri Sarawak was represented by Deputy Director Puan Agnes Lasah during the closing ceremony.
