UNIMAS hosts innovation Technology Exposition 2019

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 25th July 2019: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), along with Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus (Swinburne), University College Technology of Sarawak (UCTS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin) organised the Innovation Technology Exposition 2019 (InTEX19).

InTEX19 initially is part of UNIMAS on-going research and innovation initiatives; and serves as a platform for academics from UNIMAS to showcase their research outcome and translate them into innovative and creative research outputs such as products and designs.

Pursuant to the participations of UNIMAS, Swinburne, UCTS, UiTM and Curtin at the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2018 (IDECS), which was held from 13th to 15th May 2018, the SMA had initiated the signings of Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) between these institutions of higher learning (IHLs) in Sarawak. As such, InTEX19 celebrates this partnership, which saw SMA as the co-organiser while Swinburne, UCTS, UiTM and Curtin as the associate organisers of the event.

With the theme “Research-Driven Innovation and Technology”, InTEX19 was officiated by YB Dr. Annuar Bin Rapaee, the Assistant Minister for Education and Technological Research and Assistant Minister for Housing and Public Health at an event at Imperial Hotel, Kuching Sarawak, today.

At the closing ceremony, YB Dr Annuar witnessed exchanges of Memorandum of Understandings and Agreements between UNIMAS and various industry players. YB Dr Annuar also presented the “Best of Research Cluster” awards and the “Best of Overall InTEX19” award to inventors of research products.

At the same event, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, Chairman of UNIMAS Board of Directors presented the bronze, silver and gold awards to the winners of research projects. The winners of the research project were evaluated by panel of judges that comprise of industry practitioners and academicians, with 62% of the judges are from the industry.

InTEX19 is the 14th installation of Innovation and Technology Exposition, which began in earnest in 2006 as UNIMAS Research and Development Exposition (R&D Expo). In 2015, it changed its name from R&D Expo to UNIMAS Innovation and Technology Exposition (InTEX). A total of 240 products participated at InTEX19 which comprise of participation from universities and industry players throughout the country.
