Kota Samarahan, 1 July 2019; Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings has been released on last Thursday and UNIMAS was ranked at 301. About 10 universities in Malaysia were listed and led by UTM at the rank 101-150 in the world, followed by UTP, UTAR, UKM, USM, UPM, UUM, UNITEN, UiTM and UNIMAS.

THE’s 2019 Young University Rankings reveal the best universities under 50 years old, assessing them across teaching, research, international outlook and their work with industry.

THE Young University Rankings apply the same methodology as the World University Rankings to assess research-intensive universities across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. However, the weightings are recalibrated to reflect the profile of missions of young universities. We use 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments. The “Golden Age” rankings use the same methodology as the World University Rankings. but the weightings were recalibrated to reflect the missions of younger universities.

The performance indicators are grouped into five areas:

Teaching (the learning environment)

Research (volume, income and reputation)

Citations (research influence)

International outlook (staff, students and research)

Industry income (knowledge transfer)

THE has produced three subset rankings: Millennials (universities established between 2000 and the present day), Generation Y (established between 1986 and 1999) and Generation X (established between 1968 and 1985) so you can explore your options if you are looking for a young, innovative place to go to college.

THE has also looked at the best institutions that were founded between 1945 and 1967 – known as a “Golden Age” for public higher education. Being more than 50 years old (although still very young for universities), these institutions fall outside the parameters of the Young University Rankings. However, they are well worth a look if you are interested in some of international higher education’s rising stars.
