Kota Samarahan, 26th April 2019– Understanding the importance of semi-skilled worker’s development and training to fulfill the industrial revolution demand, the Faculty of Engineering, University Malaysia Sarawak has initiated a proactive collaboration with the industry to provide training and career development courses.

In a recent progress, a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Faculty of Engineering UNIMAS, UNIMAS Business School and ASTEEL company was signed at the University House, UNIMAS today.

The memorandum was signed as an agreement to offer a Certificate in Manufacturing Technology which will involve technical staffs of ASTEEL company as part of their career development program.

The certificate program consists of 6 modules related to manufacturing technology which will be conducted in Faculty of Engineering by experts from UNIMAS and ASTEEL. A total of 20 staff from ASTEEL Sdn Bhd are selected as the first batch of this certificate program, expected to commence from 27 April 2019.

Among the topics covered in the modules are Work Ethics, Metal Sheet Forming, Safety and Health Practice, Basic Electrical & Measurement and Basic Computer.

ASTEEL group of companies is well known for roofing and building materials supplier with branches across Sabah and Sarawak. The Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS with experts in engineering and technology, are proactively engaging with industries locally and internationally to provide trainings, competency courses and technology transfer program for mutual benefit and to drive the nation’s agenda in science and technology.

Signing on the behalf of UNIMAS was its Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi and witnessed by Dewan Faculty of Engineering, Associate Professor Dr Siti Noor Linda, UNIMAS Business School Director, Professor Datu Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman and Chief Executive Officer, Associate Professor Dr Puah Chin Hong while managing director Victor Hii Liu Thian signed of behalf of Asteel and witnessed by Michael Hii.
