UNIMAS, 19 December 2018 : Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) UNIMAS won three gold, four silver and eight bronze medals in the 3rd International Silambam Porr Kalai Carnival Championship 2018 recently.The event was organised by the Malaysian Silambam Porr Kalai Council on the 15 –16th December 2018 at Mesamall Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
About 150 participants from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and India has participated in 18 different events in the two-day championship. Over the period of 2 days, the participants showed off their Silambam skills in all the events with the presence of Maha Rudraveeran Grand Master, Mooralitharan.
Team from UNIMAS, ie The UNIMAS Cempaka Silambam Team which led by Sivaneswaran A/L Sriganthan, final year student has trained and selected five potential students to compete in nine categories and successfully bagged three Gold, four Silver and eight Bronze Medals in individual, pair and team category.

Mulam Kambu Sandai - Silver by Thivya A/L Muniandy and Darishini A/L Sagadevan

Guruvanakam - Bronze by entire team of six
The silambam team was assisted by UNIMAS Ponggal Night 2018 financially to take part in the championship and it was indeed a rewarding moment when they received the news on their victory at end of the championship. The efforts of the students to help each other to achieve such recognition in an international championship was praised by YBhg Prof Datu Mohd Fadzil Bin Abdul Rahman during a photo session at the UNIMAS Chancellery.
