KOTA SAMARAHAN, 4 October 2018: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was the champion in the Finale Grand Challenge Hackathon competition which was held yesterday at the Connexion@Nexus Bangsar in conjunction with Next Big Tech Asia Conference from 1st to 3rd October 2018. Team Native 404 from UNIMAS was the champion  after defeating other seven teams in the finale. All the finalist comprising eight teams (top 2 team from each competition leg in Johor, Kuching, Kuala Lumpur and Penang) were selected to be in the final and they had to pitch and do a demo of their invention to a panel of judges. What makes the competition more challenging is that the competition is not only limited to students, but also open to startups, working adults, professionals, SMEs, solution providers, PhD or Master’s candidates. Thus the quality of the end product and the level of competition is very high. The Native 404 team UNIMAS comprising Teshinia Phang, Vera Ruth Rewcastle, Bryan Devin Lee, Ian Mcleod Simasur and Bat Sabawi who are UNIMAS students from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT). Another team "We Made It", also from UNMAS comprising Mohamad Faarhan Iqbal and Nurul Ariessa Norramli also made it to the final of the competition. Both UNIMAS team was accompanied by Madam Eaqerzilla Phang, a lecturer from FCSIT who was the advisor to both teams.
