UNIMAS launches FBE and opens The CUBE

Kota Samarahan, 22th September 2018: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is launching the Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) and opening the Central UNIMAS Building for Educators (The CUBE) today at CTF 1 Lecture Hall, UNIMAS West Campus, Kota Samarahan.

The event is co-organized by the Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) and the Development Office and officiated the Chairman of the Board of Directors, UNIMAS, YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie,

According to UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, YBhg Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, FBE is the 10th faculty established at UNIMAS, in line with its niche area of Sustainable Community Transformation.

“ As UNIMAS has reached its 25th year of excellence in serving the nation, especially in the State of Sarawak, it is indeed our commitment to continuously develop our university further with the establishment of FBE.

“ The UNIMAS Development Office has been instrumental in providing the facilities necessary for a Faculty with its own unique requirements which is scheduled for use in 2019,” he added.

He said currently FBE has 57 students undergraduates enrolled in two degree programs which is three-year Bachelor of Science in Architecture (Hons) dan four-year Bachelor of Quantity Surveying (Hons).

Both programmes have received accreditation by Board of Architects Malaysia Part I qualification and MQA.

The faculty is in a period of dynamic and rapid growth, with student enrollment expected to rise. Additional programs under planning and development include a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and Master in Built Environment (Design, Construction and Management).  

Meanwhile, The CUBE is a 2574 square meter educational facility providing offices and supporting space for 199 lecturers arranged over three (3) levels, featuring an attractive interior courtyard and mid-century modern design cues.

The CUBE also currently houses the administration office of the FBE and its five (5) administrative staff.
