On 24 March 2018 (Saturday), more than 150 students of various year from Department of Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability participated in Chemical Got Talent 2018 which was conducted at the lobby of Chemical Engineering Building. This annual event was organized by the current first year students of Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability Department and it aimed to fostering friendly relationship between the juniors, particularly the first year students, and the senior students. In addition, this event also helped to enhance the confidence level and to nurture teamwork skills among the students in which both traits are vital for future engineers. Apart from that, the organizer, the first-year students, also had the opportunity to implement their leadership skills, experiencing hands-on training on teamwork, as well as some managerial experiences which will augment their self-development. The event director was Ms Flora Lizza anak Dampan while the deputy director was Mr. Bryan Wennerson anak Brueen. Both of them were assisted by their classmates and some of their seniors of whom were assigned to various responsibilities such as venue decoration, emcees and protocol, as well as kitchen duties in which breakfast, lunch and tea break were served to the participants during the event. For the performance, the students were grouped in accordance to their year of study and the selected theme for the event was ‘Fantasy Musical Parody’ in which the students needed to perform a 20 minutes fantastical, musical, and theatrical group play that must include acting, dancing, as well as individual and group singing. This theme was suggested in order to cultivate the creative and artistic talent among the heavily academic oriented chemical engineering students. The performance started at 10.00 am and were judged by both Dr Nazeri Abdul Rahman, Deputy Dean (Students Affairs and Alumni), Faculty of Engineering, and Mr Kamri bin Mohamad, Engineer Assistant from Department of Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability. The winner for the best actress was Ms. Fatin Fakhira binti Azmain from the 3rd year student group, the best actor were a trio of Mr Alick Davidson anak Elciana, Mr Calvin anak Jose Jol, Mr Alick, and Mr. Mohd Afiq bin Mohd Asrul from the 2nd year, and the most original and creative group was won by the 1st year students, the organizer, with their “Al Kesah Fantasi: Pari-pari yang diselewengi” which was based on a story of a bullied victim fairy. The overall winner was the final year students with their mesmerizing performance of “Puteri Bunian”, the second prize were awarded to the 2nd year for their hilarious “A new parody of Bawang Merah dan Bawang Putih”, while the third place was won by the 3rd year students with their “Malay Parody of Beauty and The Beast”.
