VICE CHANCELLOR OF SWINBURNE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY VISITS UNIMAS

Kota Samarahan: The Vice Chancellor of Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne made an official visit to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), yesterday.

Professor Linda Kristjanson and her delegation was welcomed on the campus by Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS, together with all the Faculty Deans, and other top managements.

The visit, amongst others, aimed at exploring potential opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions. One of the key topics were possible collaboration especially in the field of digital transformation and economy areas. Apart from that, the visit also aimed tofurther strengthen the relationship between both institutions of higher learning in specific areas of interest for both parties.

Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, in his welcoming speech, mentioned that UNIMAS has been mandated to lead the network of all the universities in Sarawak in implementing research and innovation activities under the Sarawak Government Centre of Excellence. This network includes the Universiti Teknologi Mara Sarawak (UiTM), University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS), the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC), as well as Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus, and Curtin University (Malaysia).

He added that such collaboration and network is sure to strengthen the relationship between our partners and stakeholders in Sarawak, specifically in research and innovation activities that can be used to support the other activities under the umbrella of digital economy.

Meanwhile, in her speech, Prof Kristjanson congratulates UNIMAS on its Jubilee celebration, and commented on its excellent achievement throughout the 25 years. She believes that UNIMAS has achieved a lot in the period and stated that one of the common values that the two institutions shared is how they value the community. She was referring to UNIMAS’ various translational research which aimed to address the problems faced by the dispersed and diverse communities in Sarawak. Prof Kristjanson also spoke on the opportunities as well as the challenges in the era of the fourth industrial revolution.

During the visit, Prof Linda Kristjanson was accompanied by Prof Ajay Kapoor, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Swinburne University Technology Sarawak Campus, and Mr James Ho, the Director of Business Development & Liaison from Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus.
