KOTA SAMARAHAN, 6 October 2017:  A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) has been signed between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and JobStreet.com Sdn Bhd today to launch its first Public University Graduate Employability Program in UNIMAS which is consists of four segments: A Career Lounge, Student Ambassadors, Career Services Counsellors and an Executive Review.

The establishment of the Career Lounge are located at the Centre for Student Development, Student Affair and Alumni Building, UNIMAS in Kota Samarahan will serve as a one-stop centre for students to prepare themselves for their first job while UNIMAS JobStreet.com Student Ambassadors and Career Services Counsellors will assist the Centre for Student Development in students’ employability strategies by providing a range of services to develop skills, such as interviewing practice, preparation of CVs and résumes and engaging in networking opportunities.

The career lounge was officially launched in UNIMAS by YBhg. Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Mr Simon Si, Head of Regional Communication of JobStreet.com.

In his speech, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim who is also leading the Digital Sarawak Centre of Excellence announced a key initiative by UNIMAS and JobStreet.com to organize an online career fair. “The Right Honorable Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohariannounced the investment of RM1 billion to upgrade ICT infrastructure across Sarawak in a range of initiatives aimed at embracing digital change.

To support the initiative of YAB Chief Minister in digital transformation, UNIMAS and JobStreet.com will organize a Sarawak Online Career Fair, the first of its kind in Malaysia.

“ I would like to urge all Sarawakians to join us no matter where you are because with the trend of Internet of Everything (IoE), you can now apply jobs and attend interview anytime, anywhere without the hassle to be physically present at the designated locations. I am confident that our strong relationship will be a start of a significant milestone for both UNIMAS and JobStreet.com to address the issues related to Graduate Employability in Sarawak and Malaysia,” he said.

Mr Simon congratulated UNIMAS for its effort in empowering students to build bridges for their future careers and as well as preparing them to enter the workforce.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all those whose dedication and efforts have contributed to this Graduate Employability Program initiative.  In particular, I would like to thank UNIMAS for their insights and cooperation in making this a reality. As part of our shared goals, we look forward to having more partnerships in rolling out more initiative with UNIMAS so that we can reach out to many more students and helping them to be career ready and ultimately bridge the employment gaps in Malaysia”, he added.

Also present was Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International), Prof Mohd Fadzil Abd Rahman, Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), UNIMAS and Prof Dr Siti Raudzah Ghazali, Dean of Centre for Student Development, UNIMAS.
