Sarawak Biodiversity Evening/World Animal Day 2017

October 4th is celebrated annually as the World Animal Day. In conjunction with the 25th Anniversary of the founding of UNIMAS, the Institute of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation is organizing a Sarawak Biodiversity Evening for public awareness in the fields of environment, ecotourism, nature conservation and biodiversity studies. The activities include exhibitions, workshops and short talks on subjects of popular appeal.

The highlight of the event is the official Guinness World Records exhibition, showing the world's largest collection of stamps on amphibians. A large-scale World Animal Map with realistic animal models will be displayed. Like-minded institutions and bodies will share the venue as exhibitors, including Malaysian Nature Society, Sarawak Forest Department, Sarawak Tourism Guide Association, Sarawak Forestry Corporation, Wildlife Conservation Society Malaysia, World Wide Fund for Nature, Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Workshops on the theme of field research will be organized. Such as boating, tying knots, radio-telemetry and other tracking techniques, plant identification and audio-recording, nature photography, dealing with snake phobia and first aid relevant to snake-bite. Other activity is the interesting speed-talks by experts on a specific topic pertaining to biological diversity or environmental conservation.


Entrance to the event is free and open to public.
