Kota Samarahan, 21 August 2017 – Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation) UNIMAS, Professor Dr Kopli Bujang gave welcoming speech on today’s soft launching of the Skilled Human Capital Development (SHCDC 2017) conference at DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS.

The conference, starting today until 23 August 2017 and organized by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resource, Sarawak State Government, Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), Skills Development Fund Corporation, CEO@Faculty, Leadership Institute and Yayasan Serian.

The conference theme “The way forward for Sarawak skilled human resources’ to support the strategic development of Sarawak through well-planned skills development of human resources.

In his speech, Professor Kopli hoped all participants to take the opportunity to share innovative, ideas and best practices in the development of skilled human resources.

“The main purpose of this lab session is to discuss Sarawak’s occupational skills profile. This profile has been developed through information gathered via a procedure called meta-ethnography.

“This process is a unique, systematic, qualitative synthesis approach widely used to provide robust evidence and thus making important contributions to the overall development of related policies and practices of human resources development in particular,” he added.

According to Professor Dr Kopli, the objectives of lab session were to have an overview of Sarawak economy, to validate occupational skills profile for industrial, to identify challenges in training and development for industries and to provide possible recommendations to Sarawak Government.

Meanwhile, SHCDC2017 focused on four tracks of discussion which is talent management, organizational change, human resource practices, and technical and vocational education.

Keynote speakers were The State Secretary of Sarawak, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani Sarawak, , The Secretary General of Human Resource Ministry, Dato' Sri Adenan Ab. Rahman, President of the Canadian Centre for Management Development, Professor, The Honourable Jocelyne Bourgon, Dean IIUM-Business School and IIUM CRESCENT, Dr AAhad M. Osman-Gani and Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS, Professor Dato' Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi.

In addition, 22 papers from industry players, practitioners and academicians also presented in the parallel sessions during this conference.

Beside that, 22 exhibitors from training providers, industries and government agencies showcased their products, materials and services and a part from that, they also promoting to participants on local and national products in Malaysia, and provides information on HRD needs in Malaysia especially Sarawak.
