Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Matang Jaya short motivational visit to Faculty of Engineering

25 July 2018 – A group of 79 form 5 science students and 5 teachers from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Matang Jaya, Kuching, called upon a short motivational visit to Faculty of Engineering. The visit to the Faculty of Engineering, led by Cikgu Badarul Bin Ibrahim, was part of the school undertaking to expose their upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates to the environment of studying at a university. Prior to Faculty of Engineering, both students and the teachers visited Centre of Pre-University Studies (PPPU) at UNIMAS East Campus where they were informed on the programmes available to them at PPPU after their SPM examination. At Faculty of Engineering, the students and teachers were welcomed by Dr. Nazeri Abdul Rahman, Deputy Dean (Student Affairs and Alumni), Dr Shafrida Sahrani, Head of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mdm Rozita Nawi, Faculty of Engineering Senior Assistant Registrar as well as a number of administrative staff and assistant engineers from various department at the faculty. For the first part of the visit at the faculty, both students and teachers were briefed by Dr Nazeri Abdul Rahman on the Faculty of Engineering which then followed by short multimedia presentations on UNIMAS and Faculty of Engineering facilities and activities. In the second part of the visit, the students were divided into 4 groups. Each of the groups visited one of the four major departmental laboratories at the Faculty of Engineering, namely, Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability, Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, as well as, Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The 45 minutes laboratories visit ended at almost 1 pm before the students and teachers departed to the Centre for Academic Information Services (CAIS) for their last UNIMAS visit venue.
