KUCHING, 5 October 2018: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is hosting the 8th International Borneo Business Conference (IBBC) 2018, organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), as a continuum of its tradition of promoting interdisciplinary business and economics research. This biennial event, the first held in 2004, is co-organized by the Faculty of Business, Economics and Accountancy, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Tanjungpura Pontianak (UNTAN) Indonesia and Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Indonesia Surabaya (STIESIA) Indonesia.
The 8th IBBC is held at the Hilton Hotel Kuching, from 4th to 5 th October 2018. Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has officiated the conference and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) document exchange between UNIMAS and NEM Blockchain Centre. Also in the pipeline are keynote speakers, from Datuk Ir Ahmad Fauzi bin Hasan (Chairman Malaysia Energy Commission), Mr Andy Roy Sian (NEM Blockchain Centre), Dr Muhamad Abdullah Zaidel (Special Administrative Officer Sarawak Chief Minister) and Mr Noor Hasmadi Noor Hamid (Consulting Director Vantagepoint Consulting). To strengthen the research and publication culture, there will be a meet-and-greet session with journal editors on the last day of the conference.
“Diginomics: Promise and Peril” has been chosen as this year’s conference theme. This is in line with recent economic development in the digital era. The conference has attracted around 150 delegates from various research background and countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, Ghana, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, Libya, Morroco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, and Thailand. The thirty-six concurrent sessions are arranged according to the general themes, namely; accounting and finance, digital business, economics, and management studies, and three best papers will be selected for each theme. Another important highlight of this conference is that there will be a selection of several best papers by certain affiliated journals, and the award recipients will be invited to submit their full papers for review and publication in those journals. Affiliated journals include the International Journal of Business and Society, Asian Academy of Management Journal, Asian Academy of Management Journal of Accounting and Finance, Asian Journal of Business Research, Jurnal Ekonomi Malaysia, Electronics Journal of Applied Statistics Analysis, International Journal of Economics and Management, Economics and Finance Indonesia, UNIMAS Review of Accounting & Finance, Hasanuddin Economics & Business Review, Jurnal Ekonomi Bisnis dan Kewirausahaan, Ekuitas (Jurnal Ekonomi dan Keuangan)
