SHAH ALAM: Earlier this year, on 19 January 2018, Ir Dr M Danial Ibrahim and Dr Lidyana Roslan visited through the connection of Mr Rosli Mohamed the Head of Casting Department of HICOM Diecastings SDN. BHD. as an effort to continue and sustain the strong network with the research and development team in HICOM Die-Castings SDN. BHD. which past achievement triumphed the contract with Mazda Japan [1]. HICOM Diecastings SDN. BHD. is the subsidiary of one of Malaysia’s giant corporation in the automotive industry, DRB-HICOM Berhad. The visit aims for potential international academia-industry collaboration to hitch UNIMAS-HICOM Diecastings SDN. BHD. with Tokai University and her industry counterpart, Kyokuto Diecasting Co. LTD., a diecasting factory specialized in premium products located at Kanagawa, Japan, which Ir Dr M Danial Ibrahim visited 28 August 2017 [2]. This effort is one of the conduct of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Strategy Map of 2016-2020 of which to strive for university-industry engagement to uphold the nation’s ambitions to secure employable graduates. As Malaysia embarks on progressing with the Industrial Revolution, computed precisions accounted by the growing and mastery of big data in industrial applications will become common. This reality that Malaysia envisioned, also means that in the near future, most intellectual posts will be deemed mediocre because artificial intelligence becomes productively and economically efficient compare to human labor. The Higher Education Minister, Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh has expressed definite worry to the irrelevance of higher education if graduates fail to understand the needs of the industry[3]. It was reported the Minister emphasized the integration education and industry in order to secure employable graduates; quoted - “Industry and academia are one, which means that the industry people and academia should work together in fulfilling the industry needs.” on the 30th October 2017 at MRT Sungai Buloh Depot, Shah Alam [3]. UNIMAS, is committed[4] in the recognition and development of her educators in which effort has led young talents like Dr Lidyana Roslan who specialized in the Finite Element Analysis of microstructures in metal crystals, a new member of the Mechanical and Manufacturing Department of the Faculty of Engineering to join the ambitious venture. Dr Lidyana Roslan co-supervised Ir Dr M Danial Ibrahim’s project entitled “High Preasure Die-Casting For Complex And Small Structures Using Magnesium Molten”. This is a collaboration research project with Jr Associate Professor Dr Yuta Sunami from Tokai University and Mr Hitoshi Watanabe, Magnesium Project Leader of the Engineering Department at Kyokuto Die-castings Co. LTD. Currently the academia-industry Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNIMAS-HICOM Diecastings SDN. BHD. and Tokai University-Kyokuto Die-casting Co. LTD. is being processed with Ir Dr M Danial Ibrahim (UNIMAS), Dr Lidyana Roslan (UNIMAS), Mr Rosli Mohamed (HICOM Diecastings), Dr Yuta Sunami (Tokai University) and Mr Hitoshi Watanabe (Kyokuto Die-casting Co.) as the researchers involve with the activities stipulated in the MoU. The proceeding of this MoU hopes to enhance UNIMAS global visibility and branding prominence as promoted in the Strategy 2016-2020.
