UNIMAS continues to foster cooperation

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 20th October 2017 : UNIMAS will continue to work closely with the government agencies, education and research hub as well as private sectors in future.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr Kopli Bujang, who represented Vice Chancellor said this is in keeping with the commitment to encourage sustainable and globalised society.

“Consequently, we hope our effort in this conference will be fruitful and could be seen in a near future,” he said during the Appreciation Dinner that was held in conjunction with UNIMAS Silver Jubilee Conference 2017 (USJC17), last night.

He said the conference enhance the networking and understanding of the challenges and opportunities in achieving the conference’s objective for all participants from UNIMAS and other participating institutions.

He also hoped that the networking and collaboration doesn’t stop here and should continue to a greater level.

“ We have witnessed many times that, as long as the paper is published, we are to leave the conference and that’s it. I have personally expressed on many occasions, that the impact of any published paper is only as good as it is for the author and the KPI of the university.

“ The more meaningful impact will be what we are able to portray, to give, to influence and to change our surrounding community for the betterment of their livelihood,” he added.

The dinner, saw more 25 papers selected to received best awards in three categories namely USJC Best Paper Award (18), the International Journal of Business & Society (IJBS) Best Paper Award (3) and the Journal of Telecommunication, Electronic and Computer Engineering (JTEC) Best Paper Award (4).

Also present at the dinner is the Chairman of Board of Director UNIMAS, Datu Dr Hatta Solhi, UNIMAS Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi and wife, Datin Kartini Ahmad.

Meanwhile, the USJC2017, with the theme “Transforming Community Towards a Sustainable & Globalised Society” was officiated by YB Dato’ Seri Idris Jusoh, Minister of Higher Education, Malaysia recently.

At the event, Dato’ Seri Idris also witnessed the launching of a book, entitled “The eBorneo Knowledge Fair”.

The ebook showcases how research in the areas of Information and Communication Technology by UNIMAS, is contributing towards sustainable developments among the indigenous communities in the Bario, Bakelalan and Long Lamai in Sarawak, Buayan and Larapan in Sabah, Pos Sindurut and Pos Lenjang in Kuala Lipis, Pahang and Pos Gob and Pos Bala in Gua Musang, Kelantan.

The USJC2017 saw a total of 262 papers and abstracts being submitted, attracted national and international researchers with the international participations from countries as far as the United States of America, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, Pakistan, Nigeria, Japan, Saudi Arabia, France, Singapore, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea.
