Kota Samarahan, 16 October 2017 – The closing ceremony of the Borneo Book Fair 2017 was held yesterday at Plaza Merdeka Shopping Mall, Kuching.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Professor Dr Kopli Bujang.

The Borneo Book Fair started on 11 until 15 October with participation of more than 20 booths.

Among the booth operators are the UNIMAS Publisher, the UMS Press, the IIUM Press, the USM Press, the UTM Press and FIXI.

The public gets the opportunity to grab a variety of good books at highly discounted prices.

Various activities are lined up including ‘Where are You Meow’ Explorace, Spell-it-Right competition, colouring contest, singing contest, fashion show and many more.

All the activities were organized together with many agencies including Institute of Language and Literature (DBP), Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak State Education Department,  Community Development Department (KEMAS), Sarawak Malay Culture Foundation (YBMS), National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN).

The Borneo Book Fair aimed to further enhancing the regional relations of Borneo through the promotion of reading culture among the participating countries and promoting joint publications.

Additionally, UNIMAS Publisher also organized the International Conference on Borneo Book Publishing BBPF2017 with Majlis Penerbitan Ilmiah Malaysia (MAPIM), Universiti Malaysia Sabah and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Cawangan Sarawak.

It was attended by representatives from government and private sectors, communities, students and academicians from schools and higher educational institutes.

The theme of the conference is "Contesting and Advancing Knowledge in Borneo Academic Publishing", reflecting the increasing researches done on Borneo, the third largest island in the world.

The conference aimed to highlight the uniqueness of Borneo as a source for academic writing as well as creative writing and also one of UNIMAS Publisher's activities in conjunction with the celebration of UNIMAS Silver Jubilee celebration.

The BBPF was attended by close to hundred participants from all over Malaysia and Brunei with 22 paper presentations and forum discussing on the empowerment of Borneo Book Publishing.
