You Channel Network Sdn Bhd and Persatuan Belia Xiang Lian Malaysia today unvieiled the winners of the first season of You Are The One Shortfilm Competition 2016 at the Grand Finale held in White Box@Publika Solaris, Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur. The contest was opened in 5 August 2016 to all Malaysian youth and university students.
With the theme “youth”, The Grand Finale involved 12 shortlisted from various Malaysian youth below 30 years old. As the world become digitized, there has been a wave of exploration into the creative expression through digital film from both industry professional and aspiring filmmakers. In that matter, the You Are The One Shortfilm Competition 2016 has attracted more then hundred group entries from various academic and social background of the teenagers in Malaysia.
A short film entitled “400 metres” was won First Runner Up which carry a cash prize of RM 3000 and a certificate. This shortfilm was directed by second year students, Dickson Ng Chia Wei with his team members. Another short film entitled “Steam Fish” was won consolation prize which was awarded RM 300 and a certificate. This short film was directed by third year students, Tay Sheik Er with her team members. Short film entitled “Dahang Weh Dau Tuyau” was directed by Siti Nur Syahiran Bt Yusmainel and her team members and she only sit on 12 shortlisted. All the student’s listed above are from Cinematogrpahy Programme, Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts, UNIMAS; Some of the project was guidence and supervised by the Cinematography lecturer. This are second achievement by Cinematography Programme in this year after Nur Ikmar Sarbini who has won first runner up in Youths Video Awards 2016.

As the champion winner, Thaqif Saadon was awarded a cash prize of RM 10 000 and a certificate through his shortfilm entitled “He”. The second runner up goes to short film entitled “Hidden” and directed by Low Yuen Wah. He also was awarded a cash prize of RM 1000 and a certificate. All the shortlisted and winner’s video are already upload on youtube channel.
Earlier, YB Senator Datuk Chong Sin Woon, Deputy Minister of Education Malaysia who officiated the event. This competition allows the youth in Malaysia to express themselves innovatively through short film. The organizer, You Channel Network Sdn Bhd and Persatuan Belia Xiang Lian Malaysia also said their aimed are to encourage and provide a channel for new talent in the field of filmmaking.
