KUCHING: Students of the third intake for Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC) Pool of Young Designers (Poyod) were successfully registered by STIDC.

The fresh graduates of Industrial Design from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will start their first one-year industrial training on furniture design in Kuching and Miri.

Throughout the course, Poyod students will be trained in projects targeted at international exposures.

This year, STIDC will participate in an international furniture exhibition in India and Dubai to promote furniture produced by the corporation based on designs created by the Poyod students.

“We (STIDC) hope that through our participation in these exhibitions, it will be a breakthrough for Sarawak’s furniture internationally,” said STIDC general manager Hashim Bojet.

The Poyod training programme was developed and implemented by STIDC in collaboration with Unimas and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB).

“Our target is to produce a hundred furniture designers by the year 2030 to help grow the furniture industry of Sarawak and achieve the export target of RM6 billion,” he added.
