Young 8 made UNIMAS Proud!

Last Saturday, 19th October 2019, a team of 8 students from Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences comprised of 2 teams; UNIMAS1: Joyce Pang Li Fang (66314), Nickson Jaludin (65001), Catherine Anak Gabriel Lee (64677), Chong Xin Ying (55724)) and UNIMAS2: Loke Jian Nam, leader (66514), Wayne Ho Xiun Liang (68045), Abdul Halim bin Muhamad Firdaus Gotuo  (63010), Arwin Solomon A/L Gana Raj Imanuel (60326), accompanied by Dr. Isabel Fong Lim ventured into their inaugural participation in the 2nd Borneo Medical and Nursing Quiz competition in Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Two teams from UMS and one team from UKM had also taken part in this competition. After an intense elimination round of 15-question from each of oral quiz, MCQ, visual quiz and 10-question of nerve-wracking buzzer session, team UNIMAS2 made it into the semi-final pitting against UMS1 and UMS2. At the end of the competition, UNIMAS2 succeeded in obtaining 2nd runner-up with UMS1 emerging as winner of this competition. Albeit sending a young team of 5 preclinical, 1 clinical and 2 nursing students, the team was a team to be reckoned with. The Deputy Dean of Students Affairs & Community Network Dr. Yeap Boon Tat and Deputy Dean of Postgraduate & Research, AP Dr. Mohd. Firdaus bin Mohd. Hayati had extended an invitation to the team for next year's competition. At the end of the competition, the teams socialized over coffee and desserts at the October Coffee House before making separate ways home the next day. The team would like to accord their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful hospitality and warmth of students from Asian Medical Student Association who organised this competition under the skillful guidance of Head of Department of Biomedical Sciences Dr. Caroline Sungtip, UMS. The UNIMAS team would also like to express their thanks for the financial support from DVC Students Affairs & Alumni, Prof Datu Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman and UNIMED under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Nor Aliza binti Abdul Rahim of FMHS, UNIMAS for the opportunity to take part in this competition. Looking forward to participating in the next Medical and Nursing competition!
