KOTA SAMARAHAN, 3rd July 2019: University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS)  today launched the ideal campus initiative. It is part of a long term effort to promote an innovation culture.

The launching ceremony was made by Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Bin Matjeraie, Director, UNIMAS Board of Directors.

Also present was Professor Datuk Dr. Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi, the Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS, YBhg Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Deputy Vice Chancellor UNIMAS (Research & Innovation) and Yg Berusaha Encik Tan Eng Hoo, Vice President, MyTRIZ Innovation Association.

Today's launch will be the first step towards the realisation of a campus environment that is self-driven, self-sustainable, organically grown, balanced and integrated as a fully dynamic system. This pioneering effort will start off with the introduction of Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) trainings to both its staff and students.

Globally recognized as an approach to increase the proficiency of problem solving, especially for complex problems by providing an inventive pathway, TRIZ has been embraced as an efficient method of problem solving by many industry leaders, such as Samsung, Intel, General Electrics and Hyundai.

With the introduction of TRIZ within UNIMAS, the university has now taken another step towards becoming a pioneer in pushing TRIZ in research and academia. Apart from that, UNIMAS aims at creating an eco-system which is capable of supporting all members of the campus to rise and face challenges, allowing them to move into the big league alongside the major players of the world through the use of TRIZ throughout the campus.

This initiative that has been taken on by the Institute of Social Informatics and Technological Innovations (ISITI) together with Bahagian Pembangunan Modal Insan or Human Capital Development Unit (BPMI) to train 205 Professional and Management Officers within the university, is testament that UNIMAS is committed towards utilizing TRIZ within both its academic sectors as well as for its students. In recognition of this effort, the Malaysia TRIZ Association has also endorsed UNIMAS to be the “TRIZ Centre of Excellence in Product Innovation”.

The introduction of TRIZ within UNIMAS will also propel the university towards becoming an ideal campus, both for staff and for students. Based on the principles and concept of ideality in TRIZ, UNIMAS will be able to maximize value while keeping disadvantages to a minimum, such as by reducing its carbon footprint, optimizing resources and meeting with the sustainable development goals.
