KOTA SAMARAHAN, 4 July 2018 : Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) created another milestone in making its visibility at the global scene when a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Faculty of Language and Communication (FLC) and Thaksin University, Thailand was exchanged in Krabi, Thailand recently.

The exchange of the document was witnessed by the Dean of FLC, Prof. Dr. Ambigapathy Pandian on behalf of UNIMAS and the Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Thaksin University, Associate Prof. Dr. Nathapong Chitniratna at the 1st International Conference on English Studies which was held from 28-29 June 2018 at Aonang Village Resort, Krabi.

With the MOU, both universities will be embarking on opportunities to undertake various projects which include collaborative research projects, joint publication works, academic staff exchange and to provide experiential learning opportunities to students.

According to Prof. Dr. Ambigapathy, the MOU will provide a better platform for academicians from both universities to come out with innovating new ideas for research collaboration that transcends across boundary between Malaysia and Thailand.

“From the research collaboration, academicians will produce journal articles which can contribute to the publication KPI of both universities thus improve its rankings among universities in the Asian region,” Prof. Dr. Ambigapathy said.

Prof. Dr. Ambigapathy who was one of the panel speakers at the conference also added that the MOU would be beneficial for students as it will present them with the opportunity to experience learning in a different environment and to discover about the language, culture and tradition of people from each country.

Earlier, Prof. Dr. Ambigapathy led a team of six staff from FLC together with a few local authorities and villagers to take part in a community project under the faculty’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Program at Singha Nakorn District, Songkhla and Rat Island.

The team was involved with the local fishermen community with their Crab Bank Project by releasing thousands of cultured crab eggs into the sea to help increase crab population which is the source of income for the local people in the area.

Later, the team carried out plogging activity at Rat Island which is one of the islands in southern Thailand.
