5th April 2018: Sudden cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating due to a myriad of medical conditions such as heart attacks and can even happen to seemingly healthy individuals. When a victim collapses of a cardiac arrest outside hospitals, members of the public who initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) now becomes the victim’s best hope of surviving to the point of care by healthcare professionals and ambulance teams.

Realizing the critical need for public awareness on this issue, MedicWorld Sdn. Bhd., organized a public talk in collaboration with the Clinical Simulation Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) which is also an official training site for the American Heart Association (AHA) in Lot 10 Boutique Hotel.

The full day event was divided into two separate sessions dedicated towards non-medically trained personnel and healthcare providers respectively. The first session on public initiated CPR and public access defibrillation saw participations from various industries, hotels, convention centres, nursing homes and non-governmental organizations from across Kuching.
