KOTA SAMARAHAN, 2 March 2018 : UNIMAS through the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT), has been appointed as one of the Centre of Excellence Technology (CoET) for NECT Gen - Industry 4.0 (National Empowerment In Certification & Training for Next Generation Workers) under the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF). 

The CoET certificate was presented in a ceremony at Pullman Hotel Kuching this morning by the Minister of Human Resource, YB Dato' Sri Richard Riot anak Jaem with representatives from HRDF, Penang Skills Development Centre (PSDC), and Knowledgecom Corporation Sdn Bhd (KCOM). 

According to the Dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Associate Professor Dr Johari Abdullah, the NECT-Gen is a collaboration programme between the HRDF, PSDC & KCOM to deliver on nationwide with Universities/Polytechnics and State Skilled Centers.

He said, UNIMAS will select the students from the 3rd year and 4th year of study, from various faculties in the field of Technology, Engineering, Science, Finance, Business and Management to participate in the NECT-Gen programme.


“ The students will undergo a minimum of 40 hours of training and our first cohort of NECT-Gen IR 4.0 programme will tentatively start in April 2018 for 100 students. The intake will be conducted twice which is on April and September and each intake will take 100 students.

He said, the cost is fully funded where the selected students (known as Future Worker) will be trained and certified in 1 of the NECT-Gen IR 4.0 programme tracks.

“ The programme features thoroughly-researched modules that have been meticulously developed with guidance from subject-matter experts and each course is defined as a 'track' that students can select to take their skills to a new level.”

He added, there are a total of 5 tracks: Big Data, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Cyber Security and Vertical Integration.
