UNIMAS won medals at SIIF2017 and PECIPTA1

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 26th January 2018: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) recently bagged a total of 15 medals at the Seoul International Invention Fair 2017 (SIIF2017) and International Conference and Exposition on Inventions by Institutions of Higher Learning (PECIPTA17) 2017.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim at a Press Conference yesterday said  UNIMAS has obtained two gold, two silver and I bronze medals at SIIF2017 which was held at the COEX Korea Exhibition Center in Seoul, Korea from 30th Nov – 3rd Dec, 2017.

“ While at PECIPTA17, UNIMAS achieved 1 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze. PECIPTA17 was held from 7-9 October 2017 at Kuala Nerus, Terengganu,” he continued.

Vice Chancellor said SIIF2017 was organised by the Korea Invention Promotion Association (KIPA) with the support from World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA) and participated by 630 inventions, originating from 30 countries including Poland, Malaysia, France, the USA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yemen, Ghana, Japan, Lebanon, China, Egypt, Germany, Vietnam, Singapore, Russia, Croatia, India, Iran, Taiwan, UAE, Thailand, Indonesia, Mexico and Uzbekistan.

On the other hand, he said, PECIPTA17 was organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia and hosted by Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) with a  total of 416 inventions were showcased at PECIPTA17, including 10 international inventions. PECIPTA17 endeavours to present innovative products and services from institutions of higher learning (IHL).

At the SIIF2017, UNIMAS showcased the following inventions:

GOLD MEDAL:

  1. “Library in a Box” led by Assoc Prof Dr Johari Abdullah (Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology)
  2. “e-DiVO (Ethnographic Digital Visual Organizer)” led by Dr Yakup Mohd Rafee (Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts)

SILVER MEDAL:

  1. “Streamlined Marine Vessels Inspired by Shark Denticles” led by Ir Dr Mohd Danial Ibrahim (Faculty of Engineering)
  2.  “A Versatile Biochar Reactor for Sustainable Biomass Management in Remote Areas" led by Ir Dr Leonard Lim Lik Pueh (Faculty of Engineering)

BRONZE MEDAL:

  1. “L- Lactic Acid Based Hand Sanitizer from Sago Frond Sugar” led by YBhg Prof Dr Kopli Bujang (Faculty of Resource Science and Technology)

CERTIFICATE:

  1. “Field Experiment: Responses of Selected Bornean frogs towards Advertisement Calls Playback” led by Assoc Prof Dr Ramlah Zainudin (Faculty of Resource Science and Technology)

At the PECIPTA17, UNIMAS showcased the following inventions:

GOLD MEDAL:

  1. “Versatility of stingless bee honey” led by Dr Mohd Razip Asaruddin (Faculty of Resource Science and Technology)

SILVER MEDAL:

  1. “Frog Skin Slide SET" led by Profesor Dr. Ahmad Hata bin Rasit (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences)
  2.  “Hybrid Biometric Authentication System” led by Ir Dr David Bong Boon Liang (Faculty of Engineering)

BRONZE MEDAL:

  1. “iGRABBLE: Gamification of Learning English Language Vocabulary” led by Assoc Prof Dr Ashley Edward Roy A/L Soosay (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences)
  2.  “Chemical Stabilization of Mukah Peat Using Agricultural and Industrial Wastes (Rumbia Ash, Pond and Fly Ash) from Mukah Sarawak” led by Assoc Prof Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda bt Taib (Faculty of Engineering)
  3. “A Method Continuous Liquefaction of Sago Starch” led by Assoc Prof  Dr. Cirilo Nolasco Hipolito (Faculty of Engineering)
  4. “Ringgit Ocular: A Bank Notes Recognizer for Visually Impairments” led by Dr Bong Chih How (Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology)
  5. “An Interactive Smart Directory Guide on Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysia Using Augmented Reality Technology” led by Dr Ng Giap Weng (Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development)
  6. “Computerized Operation Theater Documentation System” led by Puan Suhaila Binti Saee and Dayang Hanani bt Abang Ibrahim (Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology)
  7. “EZzCap: Practical Hijab For Outdoor Activities” led by Norhayati Suleiman and Noorhaslina Binti Senin (Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts)
