Announcement: UNIMAS AHA Training Site Course Calendar 2018 (2^nd Half)

The UNIMAS American Heart Association (AHA) Training Site is pleased to announce its latest course offerings for the second half of 2018.

UNIMAS is an official training site that offers the following AHA Courses:

• Courses for Healthcare Professionals:
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider Course for Healthcare Providers
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider Course
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Course
• Courses for Non-Medically Trained Personnel:
  • AHA Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR & AED Provider Course

Enrolled participants will receive the official AHA course package upon registration. Participants who successfully fulfill the assessment (written and skills testing) requirements of the course will be awarded with an AHA provider status which is internationally recognized and valid for 2-years.

All courses will be conducted by AHA certified instructors in the Clinical Simulation Centre, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Kota Samarahan Campus. The training facility is fully equipped with simulators of varying fidelity levels to ensure our participants are fully immersed in the training programmes.

Objectives

The objectives of the conference are as follows:

1. To promote and disseminate scientific research in the social, biological and medical sciences in Borneo;

2. To enable the research community, public, interested Borneo government departments, and others to keep abreast of ongoing research and its results;

3. To serve as a vehicle for drawing attention to urgent research and its results;

4. To provide a forum for the flow of information on Borneo research arising from many diverse sources;

The Conference will be held on campus at Detar Putra, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia.

11th International Conference on Information Technology in Asia (CITA'19) is a premier international conference dedicated to address the advances in Information Technology, which over the years has become a leading interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary forum to bring academia and industry together in exchanging and sharing their most recent innovations, trends, challenges and adopted solutions.

CITA '19 will be held on 16th – 17th July 2019, with the proposed theme of “Trends and Future of Humanising Digital Technologies”, emphasising on technologies that are making a difference in the global communities in improving their livelihoods.

The Department of Civil Engineering has successfully carried out our Corporate Social Responsibility Programe on the 28 April 2019. The Programe, 'Engineers and the Community', brings together the entire civil engineering Department with 20 final year students from the Engineering Ethics class, to volunteer at the School of the Mentally Handicapped Children (PERKATA) in the school's fund raising program.

The CSR program aims to reach out to the community in order to assist the less fortunate segments of the public. We want to remember that our duties and responsibilities as engineers do not only limit to the clients of our projects but also our works serve the society and public in general. We hope that through students involvement, they are make aware that there is an intrinsic link between engineers and the society. It is also hoped that the students learn about teamwork and cooperation; and working with joyful and giving hearts.

The students and staff members worked on the planning, logistics and promotion of the sales event. The staff members also contributed in monetary form in order to help out. It was a successful event and the Department raised RM3335 for the School.

The ICT4D 2019 program is a continuation of last year program whereby master students from VU Amsterdam spend 4 weeks in UNIMAS and on field to complete the ICT4D course module for their master program. This year, 10 master students from VU Amsterdam, together with 5 students from FCSIT/UNIMAS (2 masters and 3 undergraduate students) join the ICT4D program where they will attend lectures, go to the sites to conduct interview and engagement with local communities and come up with solution to solve identified problems within the community. For this year program, two sites were selected, Kpg Pinggan Jaya and Kpg Muhibbah and focusing on three main areas: (1) education, (2) health, and (3) local produce profiling. The final solution and outcome will presented on a half day symposium on 2nd July 2019. Part of the VU Amsterdam group is the lecturers/supervisors: (1) Prof Haans Ackerman, (2) AP Dr. Jaap Gordijn, and Ms Anna Bon from the International Office.

An MOA signing ceremony was held at the Level 6 TNC Meeting Room, Chancellery building for two separate MOAs. The first one is between The Value Engineers, a spin off company from VU Amsterdam University in Netherland with FCSIT/UNIMAS which entitled UNIMAS to be the sole training partner for e3Values training in Malaysia. The second MOA is between The Value Engineers and UNIMAS Publisher which entitled UNIMAS to be the publishing partner for TVE e3Values book. The e3value methodology is a stepwise approach to develop business models for networked value constellations. These constellations are networks of enterprises who offer something of economic value to end users. The Value Engineers is represented by its founder, Associate Professor Dr. Jaap Gordijn, and witness by Ms Anna Bon, representative from VU Amsterdam, whereby UNIMAS is represented by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi, AP Dr. Johari Abdullah, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and IT, and AP Dr. Jane Labadin, Director for UNIMAS Publisher.
