‘Hello Healthy Hello Kitty’
KUCHING, 16th of March 2019 – A total of 33 third year medical students from PPD 1032 Credited Co Curriculum (Sub core: Healthy Kitty, Core: Community Service) of UNIMAS organised a school health programme at SK Batu Lintang, Kuching, Sarawak supervised by Dr. Khatijah Yaman, a UNIMAS lecturer.
The programme was aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and self- care among the 143 primary school students of Year 4, 5 and 6. The programme’s theme was ‘Hello Healthy Hello Kitty’ and it was focused on three aspects of healthy lifestyle which include healthy diet, physical fitness and personal hygiene.
The objectives of the programme were to instil the importance of balanced diet that follows the Ministry of Health’s guideline through sandwich making, food pyramid, promoting less sugar drinks, ‘Suku Suku Separuh’, and nutritious food.
The students were also taught on how to take care of their self-hygiene through a proper way of washing hands, brushing teeth and the benefits of showering. The programme also promoted the importance and ways of taking care of the physical and mental health through the activities of aerobic exercises and games.
These aspects are important to be taught to the students especially at the young age as it is hoped to become their life-long habit.
