KOTA SAMARAHAN, 17 April 2017 : Earlier in the week, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) organized a writing workshop for its staff and postgraduate students. The objectives of the workshop are to expose the participants to the process of publishing an index journal and the techniques in writing an index journal. It also aimed to guide the participants in preparing a full manuscript to be submitted to an index journal.

According to FSSH Deputy Dean (Research and Postgraduate), Dr Arnold Puyok, the workshop is part of the Faculty's effort to inculcate research inculturation practices among the academics and postgraduate students. He also said that, in line with this aim, the next workshop will be on postgraduate supervision and writing grant proposal.

The workshop was facilitated by Prof Brian Dollery, a Professor of Economics at the University of New England (UNE). Professor Dollery, who is also the Director of the University of New England Centre for Local Government, is a prolific writer and has numerous publication particularly in the field of local governance.

The workshop was attended by 30 participants, comprise of both the lecturers and postgraduate students from FSSH. This is one of the activities under the Memorandum of Understanding between UNE and UNIMAS. Earlier this year, UNIMAS signed a MoU with UNE to formalise collaboration between the two institutions particularly in the areas of student and staff exchange, research collaboration and joint publication.
