Kota Samarahan,31 October 2017 -- ZECON Excellence Awards for Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) Faculty of Engineering’s Students was held on Tuesday, 31st October 2017 at the Staff, Lounge, University House, UNIMAS, Kota Samarahan.
The award was conferred by YBhg Ir. Hj Abg Azahari bin Abg Osman, Vice President Infrastructure/Construction ZECON Berhad. The ceremony was attended by YBhg Profesor Mohd Fadzil bin Abd Rahman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student’s Affair and Alumni) UNIMAS representing Datuk Vice-Chancellor, and Prof Ir Dr Al-Khalid Othman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering. This ceremony marked fifteenth years of collaboration between the Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS and ZECON Berhad since 2002.
The ZECON Excellence Award is one of ZECON Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in providing academic excellence awards to persuade top achievers of UNIMAS graduates from the Faculty of Engineering. For the year of 2018, ten selected Engineering students received their awards; two students from each program namely Civil Engineering programme, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering programme, Electronics (Telecommunications) Engineering programme, Electronics (Computer) Engineering programme, and Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability programme.
The recipients from Civil Engineering programme were Athirah binti Bakie and Abu Rashid bin Abu Bakar; from Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering were Brian Wan Martin and Mohd Nuramin bin Masli, from Electronics (Telecommunications) Engineering wereAhmad Syafiq bin Noraldin and Mohd Helmi bin Mustafa, while the recipients from Electronics (Computer) Engineering were Abang Mohd Arif Anaqi bin Abang Isa and Hasbah binti Mohamad Hashim and from Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability were Winnie anak Renang and Savena anak Fabian. The ZECON Excellence award recipients have excelled in both academic and co-curriculum activities throughout their studies at UNIMAS.
ZECON Berhad has been maintaining their support for academic field by offering scholarships to students from UNIMAS and other local universities which has served as motivation to the undergraduate students to do well in their university studies.
With an addition of the Department of Architecture, currently there are five departments under the Faculty of Engineering (including the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and the Department of Chemical Engineering and Energy Sustainability). All the engineering programmes offered have been accreditated by Engineering Accrediation Council (EAC) of Malaysia.The faculty of Engineering also offers Master of Engineering (MEng) in Civil programme by coursework Master of Engineering (MEng) in Telecommunication System programme by coursework. This programmeis an addition to the existing Master of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programmes by research at the faculty.
UNIMAS welcomes local and foreign industries participation in teaching and research collaboration or any form of financial support towards teaching or research funding. The Faculty of Engineering, UNIMAS will contribute towards the progress and development of high quality culture that fulfills the country’s needs in infrastructure development and the industry of production and manufacturing as well as highly qualified human capital.
