KOTA SAMARAHAN, September 18, 2017: UNIMAS Global has brought eleven mobility students and nine UNIMAS International students to visit Sarawak Culture Village and other interesting areas around the city last Saturday.

It is part of the welcoming tour organised for these students and to introduce them to each other and to the UNIMAS Global (UG) team.

The visit to Sarawak Culture Village, which takes almost half a day, gives the students the opportunity to learn the cultures and customs of the different tribes in Sarawak.

The students involve include the new UNIMAS international students from five countries as well as nine exchange students from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and two international exchange students from Deakin University and Chiba University, Japan.

Ibrahim Kamaleldin Ibrahim Mohamed from Sudan expressed his appreciation to UNIMAS for holding such a program which he believes is the best measure of the University's exposure to international students on the cultural heritage of the State.

"I am really grateful to UNIMAS for this visit. At least we know the culture in Sarawak including places of interest, delicious food and so on, "he said.

Meanwhile, DK Nurul Afina Pg Haji Zainalariffin from Brunei Darusallam said the tour gave her the opportunity to interact and to bond with other international students and mobility students more closely.

"I hope that such programs will continue in the future," she said.

Yomna Abo Bakr Ahmed Salem from Egypt believes that such a program will give a wider exposure to herself and her friends about the state of Sarawak.

"We are given a profound exposure to the culture here and what we have learned today, we will tell our families and friends in their respective countries. It's like a wonderful memories for me and other friends, "she said.

Also attending the welcoming tour were UNIMAS Global (International Relations) Deputy Director Dr. Regina Garai Abdullah, UNIMAS Global Coordinator (International Relations), Ms Florianna Lendai anak Michael Mulok, Coordinator UNIMAS Global (Promotion and Mobility Unit) ,Encik Dilah Tuah, and UNIMAS Global Senior Assistant Registrar, Ms Kartika Barmawi.

Student exchange programs or credited mobility programs are the initiatives of the Higher Education Ministry in providing students with opportunities to study at universities other than the university in which they are registered.

Exposure to these different environments can expand and enrich their learning experience as well as enhance the friendship network with students from other universities.

This day trip is an important event to UNIMAS Global as part of the effort in promoting the uniqueness of Sarawak with its rich culture and ethnic diversity and to expose the new student to what Sarawak has to offer.

In addition, this visit is expected to have a significant impact in attracting students from outside Sarawak to join the student exchange program at UNIMAS in the future.
