Kota Samarahan , 30 August 2017 : The NZ High Commissioner to Malaysia, His Excellency Dr John Subritzky, paid a courtesy visit to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (UNIMAS) Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International), Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim on Wednesday 30th August.

Later, His Excellency Dr Subritzky gave a talk entitled ‘Malaysia and New Zealand: 60 years of diplomatic relations’ at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS), UNIMAS.

The talk enlightens the audience on the dynamics of Malaysia-New Zealand’s relationship over the last six decades. Dr Subritzky stated that, in terms of education, the relationship between Malaysia and NZ has started way back in the 1950s with the Colombo Plan, which saw a high number of students from Malaysia going and studying at various universities in NZ.

This relationship has continued for decades and expanded to encompass other sectoral partnerships such as trade and tourism.

The talk is part of the FSS Talk Series that invites scholars, policy makers and leaders to share their thoughts on strategic issues and their impacts on policy making and on regional and international development.

According to Dr Arnold Puyok, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, it aims to be the meeting point between scholars, government leaders, policy makers and students to exchange their views on issues that matter to the public and the country as a whole.

Today’s talk, which covered a myriad of issue from trade relations, historical and cultural links, to the roles of NZ and Malaysia in the Asia Pacific region, was also attended by Datu Dr Hatta Solhi, the Chairman of UNIMAS Board of Directors.
